...what are you supposed to do?

Today i was *cough cough* 'sick' and skipped 2 tutes for 2 different subjects. A one off i swear! I've been very good! Except for all the philosophy lectures I've skipped...but I've showed up for everything else! :)

Anyway back on topic... are we supposed to notify our tutors or something before hand if we know we're not going to be there (too late now for me) or afterwards? are we?...it's probably a stupid question but your advice would be appreciated :D

If there is something important on that tutorial time eg. assessment, bring a doctor's certificate and give it to your tutor (regurgitating what my ECON tutor told me :p)

But some tutors don't give a damn if you come or not, because if you don't come its your loss not theirs, like for example my ACST and MATH tutors don't mark the roll so they wouldn't even know if you were/weren't there.

lol... there wasn't an assessment on or anything it was just a regular old tute for linguistics and sociology... i thought it was ok to be away for like 1 or 2 tutes in a subject...my philosophy tutor said we have to be there for like 75% of the tutes i think (under normal circumatances) ..the others didnt specify..

So um..should i explain to the tutors in email or something about 'why' i supposedly didn't go to my tutes??

most subjects have required tutorial attendance.

like you have to come to atleast 80%.

so fuck it you can miss two more tutes without question.

i always make sure i miss the maximum ammount of tutes without need of a doctors certificate or anything.

check with the subject.

most either have 80% or 85%.

look in the study guide.

i always save them for when assignments are due. i just don't turn up to any tutes that week because im writing assignments all night.

hmm.. well the soc 175 guide doesn't specify and the ling 109 guide says you're expected to attend all tutorials (but is this just loosely 'expected'?)

well..more than half of my soc tute has been empty except for the 2nd week of sem and as for ling i showed up to the tute in the 1st week that no one came to except for about 3 other ppl and other ppl haven't always been showing up in that either.. So i have a nice, clean record :)

Do u think that maybe i should cobble together some email about an unavoidable family emergency or something?

hmmmm thats weird.

every subject i've ever had has set out a percentage or a number of tutorials that you have to turn up to.

100% tutorial attendence will help u alot if u are on a borderline between fail and pass, it usually is considered in ecfs subjects.

I find tutes a waste of time, mostly just regurgitating what u just read in the textbook.

As for class participation marks, u shouldnt lose ur dignity raising your hand and regurgitating the bloody obvious. I just sometime sit their in silence for the entire tute, how can Foucault be that interesting, ur probably just wasting ur breath if u cant get the marks from assignments and finals, the marks are all moderated in the end.

And also, tutes in the W5(ABC) block are absolute shit, 30 people crammed like livestock in a room with no air con. How the hell can u actually participate in tutes if u got 30 people and only 1 hour? maybe 15, but looks like law department cutting costs

Only so much discourse can go on about him..

Yeah yeah its fine to miss a few tutes, the one I skipped the most in last semester was the class I got the highest mark in, they also gave me a $300 reward for essay skillz. Stress less!
