In light of the Global economic crisis, swine flu, middle east, N Korea, etc etc

Where do you see the world in 5 years time? What drastic changes will happen? Who will survive? Who will fall?

Worst thread ever, think about what has happened over the last few years and we are still ok. 9/11 SARS housing crisis. war on terror, Iraq war, nuclear Iran concerns etc etc etc etc etc. There has been ecconomic crisises before, the 80's was supposed to be bad and we are still here and still ok. Swine flu is nothing, its just a particularly strong case of the flu, its all just media hype. What about the middle east? its been there for a while mate, they are always going to have their problems and be hating on Israel, nothing is going to change in 5 years. North Korea and South Korea have been at war for about 50years, this new nuclear testing is just another example of the posturing they do constantly.

There wont be any surviving or falling, There wont be any drastic changes, everything is just going to be awwwwright.

Some things will be worse, some things will be better, with no real significant net change.

Fred Dent does an interesting presentation called "This Time is Not Different", and I tend to agree with it. There have been so many crises in the past that have eventually been overcome. According to this presentation, we have had 10 bear markets, and 10 recessions since WW2 and the world economy manages to recover pretty easily. Perhaps its just the media that is "invested in selling negativity" to us.

Here's the youtube for anyone interested.

One thing I can see happening though, is the devaluation of the USD relative to other currencies, thanks to the Fed Reserve and the US government.
