256 too slowwwww =\
Yeah but it's unlimited. We have telstra 1gig cable right now, thats 512. and theres 4 people in my family, so we each get 250mb each, which is no where near enough.
If it's only half as fast, thats fine cause its unlimited.

i guess it boils down to the following:

u want more bandwith for decent speed or less bandwith for good speed connection.:D

unless u want to go over the limit and pay through ur nose.
thats, a good point- coz if i was on cable i would have been capped by the first week i guess (looking at those speeds):D

but like i said for me (just got broadband couple of weeks ago) anything is better than 56k:D

adsl is a good alternative but its slower, which is weighed up by the nice d/l limits or non at all if ur lucky

cable isn't 512, it's something else again..
not to mention that it's hard to compare different connections because of different user loads and such

cable (optus/telstra) is 10mbit
adsl is 1.5mbit

which is, theoretically:
cable: 1250KB/s
adsl: 187.5KB/s

these are maximum values however.
i'm on telstra bigpond cable (3gb, yes... it sucks)
but my maximum single (no jets, no mirrors, no splitting/segmenting) download speed was about 1MB/s creeping up to 1.1MB/s

generally hitting 800-900KB/s

adsl is a 'better' deal, if you want more quota.
e.g. 10-12GB a month, instead of the lousy 3 from optus/telstra.

reliability is another issue,
availability is as well.

but overall, i'm on cable because i've been with telstra for about 4-5 years now, and it gives me fast internet access (at the cost of having a 3gb limit per month).

if you want 50-60KB/s transfers, go with adsl and get a larger quota :)

i used to download a lot
(double figure GB's per month)

but now i share the cable with a few other networked pc's at home (family members, etc).

which means 100MB/day isnt a lot all things considered.
i keep things to a minimum and conserve :)

studying wastes a lot of time away from the computer :p

Just justisfy any time spent here/ any time spent with a window of this forum open/ any time spent talking about BoS as study. Remember, some of the best in the state spent quite a bit of time here last year ...
