Ive enrolled to stat170 but ive found a number of people to find this subject relatively difficult. Considering im no genius at numbers, would psyc222 be easier? Love to hear any experiences with either of these subjects!

Hey,

I dreaded STAT170. I failed the mid sem exam and everything - then got a D in the end.

I think it's about not giving up and really making an effort to get it every week. I was told not to take the psychology one because the STAT is a pre-req of some units and the other isn't and the STAT one gives you a better foundation for subsequent units that need it.

I guess at the end it's up to you but now i am glad i did the stat170 as it was much more encompassing.

P.S Don't buy the textbook just get it from the library should you need it.

If you have any specific questions, let me know.

Stat170 is pretty basic, its not very hard at all BUT...
you need to attend your lecture and all your classes. You buy a textbook *quite useless* and a folder. The folder has EVERYTHING very clearly of what you need to know, its basically the entire semesters lecture slides. I ended up with a very high C, but i went into the final on a D average. I did 2 unit maths at school and was not 'top of the class' so don't feel like you 'need it'.
In fact, i think you'd probably be ahead if you had done general, as theres hardly any stat in 2unit.

It does appear overwhelming to begin with, but they go through everything, how to do it, what to apply etc. in the lectures. If you follow it its definately not hard to pass...

Yeah we were told we didn't really need the textbook because it was rubbish. Bought it anyway because I knew I'd need the extra resources. Turned out to be a massive waste of money.

You can get the resources and textbook separately. Just get the resources which you def NEED. It has all the lec notes, tute example and prac notes and a CD with extra examples and answers to all the examples done in the class. Don't bother with the textbook but I am telling you now the iLectures are video recorded and they are great! You can do the examples and then listen to the iLecture to see if you got them right. Half way through semester I stopped going to lectures and just iLectured because I couldn't keep up in class as I need to sit and figure it out myself. I just did the iLecture and tried the examples before seeing the answer. Helped me immensely and that's why i think i went from a fail in the mid sem to a D overall.

yeah i probably would of got a HD if i didnt write 3 answers for 1 question. I got stuck on the 'which formula to apply', i thought i'd do them all then cross some out haha.

they have changed the textbook this sem, so everyones opinion about the textbook is basically not applicable.
