Contradiction alert.
Really where? I don't think anyone should drink like a fish but I'm not going to say there should be a law preventing someone buying a few bottles of vodka and going home to enjoy them by themself.

Right here bro, "I AGREE she shouldn't but i think SHE SHOULD be able to"??? Flaming contradiction?

I apologise, in my naivete I assumed you and Katie could identify the difference between deserving a right, and the prudence of acting upon that right.

Why on earth is she entitled to that "right"?
I think it pretty obvious but whatever. I think every woman, poor or rich, single or partnered should be able have a baby. Don't you agree?
And if a mother has to raise it on her own, and can't work while she has a baby - how is she supposed to support her and her baby? Hence I support paid maternity leave.
I think she is entitled to that right. Pretty simple.

Man if you read the context it makes perfect sense. I agree she shouldn't (rely on nonexistent external support) but I think she should be able to (rely on external support ie paid maternity leave)

Not if she has no means of supporting it you spack? What gives her the right to bring a baby into the world when she knows full well that she has no means of supporting it. That is child abuse, plain and simple.

Oh my. I think she should have paid maternity leave, then when the child goes to school etc she can go back to work. What are you talking about? You basically asked the same thing as me - How is she supposed to support the child? Did you actually read my post that you quoted. You don't make any sense.

No means of supporting it poo. We have an extraordinarilly high standard of living in Australia, absurdly high even and are so cushioned we call it abuse if the baby has to be subjected to care still well above the world median? What a load of rubbish. The child can be supported, they just can't live like a king, when we start talking about the child not being able to eat enough food, have a warm safe place to sleep and other essentials then we can talk about inadequate care. But when people who don't own air conditioners and play station two's and DVD players are said to be undeserving of a child they can just bugger off.

It is a separate matter to be a bad parent, but on the matter of finance there is no reason why a commited parent, regardless of their economic status should raise a child in abject poverty, not in a country of medicare, of free, compulsary and secular education, of the baby bonus and of work for the dole. There is no reason in Australia why economic status should curb a womans right to a child, no reason.

I think people should have to have a license to have a baby. Dumb people have too many children and dilute our gene pool.

I know that. I'll be the first one to say that people have it extremely good in Australia. What im saying is, if a single woman has a baby for the sake of having a baby and is off work for 6 months with no other forms of income, then she will not be able to support it. Why should she be given support to have a baby? It is not a right.

because we fucking need babies! for chirst's sake. it's already been said 5000000 times.

and besides, if a woman has a baby for the sake of having a baby, we've a duty of care to provide for that baby because it isn't its fault that its mum's a douche.

and we don't need old cunts milking the welfare system.

and babies born into welfare and poverty still have the potential to be productive.

Because I think it is a generally held sentiment that the higher the babies standard of upbringing the better and if the two alternatives are that the babies just aren't born so we have an even worse problem with ageing population, or that they are born and just aren't as well off are both undesirable and less appealing compared to what will come of supporting them.

Yes but with that argument comes the problem of overpopulation. Australia cannot really support a much larger population can it?

We don't need babies. The world is overpopulated. Babies from other countries can be adopted and immigration can increase and we'd be doing the world a service.

That's true though.

Tully still hasn't dealt with the fact that irresponsible mothers are going to have babies anyway.

It's not the fault of the babies that their parents are stupid.

It also costs more in the long run when the babies grow up in destitution with almost no chance of becoming a productive member of society.
what shes saying though is that paid maternity leave, along with the baby bonus etc with encourage more irresponsible sluts to get knocked up. Its not the fault of the child, but i dont see the need to encourage them to have babies any more than they already are.

adoption isn't a viable option because of the high costs associated with the process and people just cannot be fucked adopting kids when they can make them themselves.

Yes. I cant think of a solution right now, but i just dont really think that people without a means of supporting a child should be encouraged to have one.
