Why do some teachers say scaling doesn’t exist (1 Viewer)

over the course of my senior and junior years of high school I have heard many teacher say that scaling doesn’t exist or doesn’t matter when choosing courses. Why would a teacher (presumably intentionally) say that scaling doesn’t exist when they are putting students at a disadvantage and what benefit does telling students that ‘scaling doesn’t exist’ bring to the teachers and or the school?

Because 50% of the cohort (non selective) is deluded and choose high scaling subjects, fail, are stuck with 10 units they suck at and the aftermath is self explanatory.

It definitely does exist, but it shouldn't be championed as a way of getting you a high atar - people obsess far too much over scaling. For the most part, it's not as significant as everyone makes it out to be. If you take subjects you enjoy, you will study more and you will do better. Plus, you will enjoy your year more and not have continous regrets about the shitty subject you chose that scales well but that you hate.

Cause a lot of people tend to choose subjects based on the scaling. I have people in my school who literally get 30% in extension math but still keep it cause they are delusional that scaling is gonna help them.

it's better to do an average/low scaling subject that you enjoy and have the potential to do really well in, than a high scaling subject that you don't enjoy and might not be great at.
