I'm currently enrolled in this free WW1 course offered by Monash U through futurelearn.com

Will I get any qualification at the end or will it be a waste of time.

No qualification, just a certificate of participation.

can I put into my resume as certificate of participation from monash under education?

Yes - it is evidence that you have undertaken personal education.

Actually, not too sure about that. It is not really officially recognised (even though endorsed by Monash University) and it's similar to those free courses offered by open universities. Personally doubt it really makes much of a difference in your resume

But still I can put in on Linkedin, under education. I just want the Monash name somewhere to increase the number of institutions.

You can put it in as long as there is a 'document' to support that course.

These days most courses give certificates of participation or otherwise - often listing the nationally recognised skills etc that the course covered. These are worthwhile putting on a CV as you don't necessarily know what an employer may be looking for and self-motivation to improve yourself is certainly one worth showing.
