I've been looking around for work experience where it i can learn something valuable. I'm interested in either Medicine, Engineering, Business or Law. Any places accepting or any uni's with a work experience scheme would be very helpful!

what type of experience are you looking for OP? just general work experience (in this case try a charity) or more specific to your interests will be harder to find

Well I did my work experience at a hospital, but they usually only let work placement students do nursing. I was lucky and got to do radiography, nursing, physiotherapy, medicine and pathology as my stepfather is a paramedic and good friends with a lot of them so as someone said previously, who you know does matter. If you're interested in doing your placement at a hospital, ring them up and ask if they'll accept you or talk to your careers advisor.

Somewhere to go and complete work experience in the city would be the best option, I've applied for university work experience programs but they're all closed.

There are a couple of small law/accounting firms in the city that you could go to. My friend went to Slater & Gordon Lawyers for her work experience, although I've heard the application process is quite intensive.

Personally, I had a relative who went to a specialist (at a hospital for their own health check) but while they were there, they managed to get the number for a famous neurosurgeon in the same hospital for me to do work experience at.

So, you could either ask a relative going to a specialist to ask if they could take you... orrr... find the number of a specialist in a hospital near to you and ask them to take you in as a work experience student. Personally, in this placement I watched two full days of operations in the operating theatre and then a third day in consultations.

I had another friend who did work experience in a hospital in general and she was far worse off in terms of what activities she did. It was more a nursing experience than "medicine" experience.

Hope this was of some help.

If you dont know anyone, put together a CV/Cover letter and send them out to all the places you want to work. Eventually, you might get lucky and someone might be willing to give you a go. At the end of the day, it's free labour so I'm sure someone will be interested.
