For contemporary issues, the question is "Analyse the causes of one workplace dispute, and the strategies used to resolve it."
What are the types of workplace dispute??? Would I be right in saying that a lockout is a type of workplace dispute???

Thanks

Lockout is a type of industrial action.
Workplace disputes could be over pay, working conditions, types of work etc.

Thanks for that.

But in the question, it says "the causes of one workplace dispute". So wouldnt the working conditions, pay etc. be the CAUSES of the dispute. What are the different types of dispute itself??

This is how I'm interpreting it. I may be wrong though

"Analyse the causes of one workplace dispute, and the strategies used to resolve it."

In simpler terms:
Analyse the causes of one dispute in a workplace, and the strategies used to resolve it.

e.g. The dispute was caused by the workers being forced to work as independent contractors, which left the workers without entitlements such as superannuation and leave.

OK so taking the example of QANTAS' dispute with its engineers, the causes were issues regarding income, working conditions etc. The strategies would be?? And what is the role of Alan Joyce's decision to lock out QANTAS' workers??

Alan Joyce, as CEO, took the "unprecedented action" of grounding aircraft. I'm guessing he did this so Fair Work Australia could intervene and ban industrial action.

As for strategies, look at the chapter "Strategies in HRM" and apply them to the scenario. QANTAS' should have a "workplace dispute resolution" strategy
