A Yaris would be terrible in a car accident. Sure they talk up all the safety features and shit like that, but its pretty much a marketing gimmic, targeting rich parents who want their kids to be safe, so they MUST buy something with 7 airbags, ESP, EBD and all the other bullshit they add into a < 18k car. An airbag would be great if you were to have an accident in a car park. But in reality an airbag would not do shit when your exceeding 80 k/ph. Try running at a brickwall with a pillow on your head. It's not going to do a thing. I would much rather have a sturdy, heavier and bigger Full body steel like what 'ausbluesman' said, that would at least be able to withstand some force.

The frontal impact test is conducted at 64km/h, a bit quicker than car park pace.

The yaris has 5 stars, the highest possible rating.

The EA Falcon did poorly in crash tests when measured by 1988 standards.

dude, im just saying; if a bus is lining you up, would you rather be in a shitbox with a pillow or have s sturdy solid metal frame?

Heavy doesn't mean sturdy, the passenger compartment in a yaris will deform less in an accident than the passenger compartment in an EA falcon.

Only one way to solve this. You get in a Yarris, ill take the falcon. We drive straight at each other at 60kp/h.

Seriously check out the NCAP results videos on youtube. I'm sure they're up there.

Another thing, not sure if you've ever sat in one but try closing the door. Even on the cheapo model it has a nice solid thud which is considerably nicer sounding than my Civic or Lancer. Comparable to a German sedan 'thud'.

I'm just going to point out that you are safer when undergoing less g's in a car accident, the yaris will deform slowing your deccelration putting less forces on your body meaning your more likely to survive!

U mean like those idiotic P Plater kids who turn off stability control because they think they know better? Agreed. I don't feel compelled to turn it off in everyday driving.

You can turn it off in most cars with staibility control, you just have to know where to look (its often hidden by the steering wheel).
I've only turned it off once when it was trying to get traction on a dirt road and couldn't!

Don't blame you, you can however turn off stability control in most cars, espesh high end ones
Most performance or luxury-oriented cars have some degree of disabling stability control usually via a button on the dash. Even the Aurion has a way but it's a lot less convenient than the others (requires some complex foot pedal sequence from memory).

I've had driver training with stability control off and I know the difference- it's huge. Unless you are on the track and know the road (and hazards) inside-out and perfectly (i.e. impossible), there's no rational reason for turning it off on the street.

I've never driven a car with stability control. Ever. Biggest safety features in a car I've driven are airbags and ABS XD (1999-2000 Camry).

Excluding the Merc I drove, but that was only in a straight line on a deserted road. Hardly counts.

It was this deformation that killed the driver in my scenario lol.

Worst Cars:
Chrysler PT Cruiser (HATE them, and so ugly and tacky)
Dodge Caliber
Hummer H3 (soooo stupid, who would buy this unless you travel through trecharous, rocky landscapes on your daily commute??)
Falcon/Commo utes with sportkit, esp FPV/HSV (sporty utes look so stupid and redneck, and defeat their purpose and compromise their usefulness)
ANYTHING from Ssangyong is hideously ugly
Any SUV which is hopeless offroad

Don't know why people giving Getz/Yaris/etc a hard time, they are inexpensive, reliable and fuel efficient cars that get the job done quite nicely.
