groovy.

Was just wondering. For the Xbox i got the Game of the Year edition of morrowind, so all the expansions were on one disc. But with the 360 i already have the original Oblivion. Does that mean that when the expansion comes out, it will be possible to just buy the expansion and it can install on the console (i.e. so it will be pretty cheap - 40-50$) or because its a console, the expansion will need to also come with the entire original game of oblivion on the disc? (so it will be expensive? :/ -100$).

You would buy the expansion throught he marketplace. It shouldn't cost more than $10-20

I'm a Nintendo fanboy, would probably never buy a PS3. As stated before, I find shooters pretty boring after a while unless it has an amazing multiplayer (Timesplitters 2). Those types of games don't really appeal to me at all, and it's why I've stuck with Nintendo
The innovative Wii is probably the most dramatic shift in console gaming since the NES came out, and it's paying off for Nintendo, even though they're still a distant 2nd in the console war. I've never been so excited over a console, and I'm not one of those insanely fanatical console gamers. The price is just an added bonus

I'm still waiting it out before i choose anything, but at the moment it's PS3 (however I won't have one in my hands for at least a year thanks to its insane price).
I simply don't like Wii. Zelda was fun, Wii-sports is awesome with mates around and the wii-mote is cool. But it got boring kind of fast, and it's insanely over rated. That's my personal view but previous to this I quite a large Nintendo fan and had shivers every time I heard something new about the "Revolution", so it is no way a biased fan boy view.
360 is starting to tempt me, mostly because a shit load of games are being ported to it that are keeping me hanging for a PS3. If tekken is ever confirmed for 360 I think I might be sold (I'm a huge fan of fighters). At the moment at least the games that have been ported to 360 are also staying on PS3 and haven't made a total shift (VF5). I'm still pissed about DoA leaving the PS2 for xbox....

This being said, who knows what Wii also has under wraps that might completely shift my view in the future. Being a fan of fighters though I don't think Wii would please me, I can't see myself using a Wii-mote for them (other than maybe Smash Bros, though I don't really count that). At the moment though if I could pick one of the consoles for free, it'd be PS3.

Pfft. "Expansion pack" is a rip. See how the box says "downloadable content"? You can download what you want online. Right now.

Uh...mabye for Xbox360, but then again i dont know. They're all avaiable on the net though.

^jesus christ, shut up already

it's a pretty good time to be a gamer. all the consoles have great things to offer, and while the ps3 is a piece of shit right now, it'll no doubt be awesome in a couple of years. i've got a wii and it's probably the most fun i've had with videogames, hell, even my mum loves playing it- the last videogame she played before this was probably tetris on my old brick gameboy. hopefully getting a 360 soon.

there's loads of potential with these consoles, and i can't wait to see what theyve got to offer a few yrs down the track.

^ exactly right. the wii is amazing. i just got rayman and holy fuck it's fun. my mum and stepdad even plays the games, and like yours my mum hates gaming apart from arcanoid clones (where you bounce the ball off the paddle at the bottom to get rid of bricks up top).

I thought the wii wouldn't be for me, as I don't always have people over who'd enjoy the games, but I mean, my parents are huge on it now. They play it even more than me. I never fail to have a multiplayer game when I want.

It truly is fantastic to be a gamer. Handhelds are amazing (well the DS is, anyway). Consoles are trying new and innovative things.

huh? what are you talking about? the downloadable content available at the moment includes small add-ons such as new weapons, and short quests (about 1 hr extra gameplay each time).

The expansion pack is coming out stand-alone for PC, and may not even make it to the PS3. The xbox 360 will have this pack cheaper and available as a download through Xbox Live's Marketplace. This expansion will add 30+ new hours to the already long game!

You'd pay $999 for Final Fantasy? :p I'm going to figure out how I can borrow someone's PS3, plus the game to play FFXIII.

I can't wait for Blue Dragon on the 360. It got a very warm reception in Japan by Final Fantasy fans. Wish they'd hurry up and translate it

what i meant is that a *console* is basically a pc.. so if you kinda modify some stuff on the pc (add periphials).. you get.. a console!!

no it's not. full stop. they cater for two very different markets. a pc is for work, internet, media and gaming, whilst a console is almost exculsively for gaming. developers are locked in by the constraints of consoles, which can be a very good thing, as they maximise the hardware (check out early ps1 games vs late ps1 games; early ps2 vs late ps2). What I hate about PC gaming is the necessity to spend a shitload of money for a top PC that can handle games at their max settings, only to have to upgrade some components one year later, if I want to keep up with gaming evolution.

...precisely why PC with TV outputs have been available for years. ... precisely why console gaming's popularity keeps increasing from generation to generation. A lot of people have simply started to prefer console gaming for features such as consistent online play (i.e. a friend's list that is consistent between all games, leaderboards, a lack of cheating [considering how common cheating in online games is with mods and the such])

Yes, very true.

Each platform has its own advantages or disadvantages. I choose pc as the dominant platform based on my own reasons, namely that it will always have the best graphics, its games are far more mature, in the sense that its more intelligent and complex. It also has all the features that a console has + much more. I pay what you might consider a "premium" for this, and thats my decision.

Now, to actually contribute to what this thread is actually about, i say that the wii, so far, is the best console out of the three. The reason is because the wii has offered two things to the gaming world:

  1. An entirely new approach to games which (thankfully) differs from the graphics of that game and into the actual game itself, otherwise known as gameplay
  2. Offers something that the PC cannot, yet, provide as a control method.

PCs may always have the best graphics on paper, but it'll only be accessible to those on a big budget, ie hardcore gamers. For the 360 to be out as long as it has, and release something graphically pleasing like Gears of War is incredible, the developers are just going to get more and more from the machine like stazi said as time goes on.

How are the games on the PC "far more mature"? The 360 gets a fair load of "mature" games (hell, they've even completely fucked up Bomberman making him all badass) and the PS3 and Wii will have theirs as well. I pity those who can't enjoy a game because it seems to be generally aimed at children, anyway.
