What happened to Mary is valid for all of us, because God asks every one of us to accept Him - making our hearts, our entire bodies - our flesh - available to Him, so that He can dwell in the world.
We experience this best through the mystery of The Eucharist.

Frankly, no.

Oh you didn't hear? That whole thing died a while back with the rise of intelligence and logical thinking. Supported perhaps by our loving gods refusal to ever show himself, maybe he just forgot about us? I mean if i were him, i'd probably want to forget about a primitive little species like this one too.

No ...

See apparently, and I read this in a book, the word virgin meant something very different in Aramaic or whatever. Apparently it just meant like, young lady or something, not young lady with intact hymen. So I'm going out on a limb, and with my trusty old friend science and I'll say no.

Like, it's entirely possible this lady Mary did exist and that she did give birth to a dude named Jesus who claimed to be the messiah ... But come on guys, water into wine? Water can't magically transform into fermented grapes you dicks.
This.
I have read somewhere it is possible for a woman to get pregnant somehow caused by mutations in her body or something weird like that BUT she can only create another female (no Y chromosome).

The bible and religion is full of shit.

You guys are pretty dumb, hey.

'Science' can answer the 'how' questions, but it has no real place in the 'why' stuff. This is the domain, primarily, of theology and philosophy. All of you trying to answer a 'why' question with 'how' answers have rocks in yer head, srs.

Why question number 1:
Why is there something, rather than nothing?

Plausible answer:
A mysterious and all-powerful creator

Why question number 2:
Why was there 'something' in Mary's womb, rather than nothing?
Refer to why question #1. God is the original creator of 'something' from 'nothing'. The virgin birth of Christ is not only consistent with this, but it further enlightens our understanding of who we are and what we are doing here.

Also, up yours HSC

I'll put it in perhaps more eloquent terms. It is technically possible that a woman may give birth to a child whilst still a virgin; however the child can only ever be a baby girl - due to the lack of a present Y chromosome.

So that can lead us to one of two possible conclusions:

1. Jesus was a transvestite.
2. Jesus was not born of a virgin.

The second makes a great deal more sense - people are much more likely to follow the teachings of a "divine being" rather than some guy born out of wedlock, no matter how "great" his insights into human existence are.

The scriptures are a set of moral teachings constructed to give the people of the past a sense of common morality; and as time has marched on the scriptures have lost almost all of their relevance in the face of rationality and science. Such that the prophets could gather belief in these moral teachings - the parables and stories of the Bible, Qu'ran and Torah often include supernatural elements to create a sense of fear to drive the faith; with no other reward for "toeing the line" other than the promise of paradise after death.

It astounds me that people of the modern day can still submit to these archaic beliefs.
