Hey guys!

Like so many before me, I'm stuck on whether to put USyd or UNSW Law as my first preference (I'm planning on studying BCommerce/LLB). I've been notified by both universities about my bonus points, so I'm pretty confident in making it into both.

At first I had the mindset that it would be advantageous to go to UNSW for the Commerce degree and USyd for the Law degree. However, after reading the 'Good Universities Guide' - UNSW has a higher income and employment rate for Law. However USyd still has a certain level of prestige associated with it's faculty of law.

Therefore I thought I'd post here and see what you guys think.
Also although it's not important, I'm a typical asian, so that's the social aspect covered.

Does this mean that you can go to both University?

Wow, congrats! =)

I reckon you should go to whichever you feel like going because from what I know, there is hardly any difference between the two and as long as you perform well, you won't be disadvantaged by which uni you went to (between UNSW and USYD)

ah jeez another 'island' asian, go to unsw where the rest of them are, guranteed you will feel right at home, usyd has a large amount (although obviously not all) scaaarrryyy open minded left wing artsy caucasian hipsters so you will hate usyd if i'm thinking of the right definition of 'typical asian'.

You don't go to either university, let alone A university... lol

Usyd also has plenty of Asians, particularly in Commerce. (not for nothing did Honi Soit label the faculty as the Chinese Embassy...haha)

(If you take offence at the last bit, we don't want you, go to UNSW.)

i just base my demographics on the people i saw at open day and on the people at my school on where they are going.

Yeah that's what I've been told by many people. Well you know me Namu, and I'm sure you know that UNSW would be my ideal university for social purposes.

Haha yeah, but like University's more than just socialising isn't it?

I'm probably reading into this too deep, but do you mean there's a lot of international students doing commerce at Usyd (like mainland china imports?)

Nathan, we don't need a thread like this. You always tell me to be more asian. Let's hit cabramatta together and become more asian and choose UNSW

  • The degrees are basically identical.
  • UNSW has slightly better graduate outcomes (on average). Frigid should be in here shortly to give you the statistics
  • Graduate prospects at the thin end of the wedge (top-tier law, consulting, investment banking) are anecdotally slightly better at Sydney.
  • Sydney's location really is better, if the new law building is being used? I dunno
  • I like UNSW's campus better. I think it has a better atmosphere to it.
  • Ultimately, I'd probably choose by the second degree. I think the consensus is that UNSW's commerce degree is better (in terms of graduate outcomes). Economics and finance are particularly good. Maybe roll UNSW way if you're that way inclined.

Thanks for that.
After reading that, I'm leaning towards UNSW.

UNSW is fugly. I am thus going to USyd.
thanks for resurrecting a five month old thread just to tell us that your choice of law school is based on the key criterion of architectural aesthetics.

Just in case of what, exactly?
It's to avoid the grueling process of coming back on this site and realising that I didn't achieve my aim. (If it's not written down I can convince myself that I never aimed that high to begin with.)

ps. Yes, I am crazy.
