Yet another UNSW vs USyd Thread. (1 Viewer)

Hey guys!

Like so many before me, I'm stuck on whether to put USyd or UNSW Law as my first preference (I'm planning on studying BCommerce/LLB). I've been notified by both universities about my bonus points, so I'm pretty confident in making it into both.

At first I had the mindset that it would be advantageous to go to UNSW for the Commerce degree and USyd for the Law degree. However, after reading the 'Good Universities Guide' - UNSW has a higher income and employment rate for Law. However USyd still has a certain level of prestige associated with it's faculty of law.

Therefore I thought I'd post here and see what you guys think.
Also although it's not important, I'm a typical asian, so that's the social aspect covered.

I reckon you should go to whichever you feel like going because from what I know, there is hardly any difference between the two and as long as you perform well, you won't be disadvantaged by which uni you went to (between UNSW and USYD)

Usyd also has plenty of Asians, particularly in Commerce. (not for nothing did Honi Soit label the faculty as the Chinese Embassy...haha)

i just base my demographics on the people i saw at open day and on the people at my school on where they are going.

Yeah that's what I've been told by many people. Well you know me Namu, and I'm sure you know that UNSW would be my ideal university for social purposes.

I'm probably reading into this too deep, but do you mean there's a lot of international students doing commerce at Usyd (like mainland china imports?)

• UNSW has slightly better graduate outcomes (on average). Frigid should be in here shortly to give you the statistics
• Graduate prospects at the thin end of the wedge (top-tier law, consulting, investment banking) are anecdotally slightly better at Sydney.
• Sydney's location really is better, if the new law building is being used? I dunno
• I like UNSW's campus better. I think it has a better atmosphere to it.
• Ultimately, I'd probably choose by the second degree. I think the consensus is that UNSW's commerce degree is better (in terms of graduate outcomes). Economics and finance are particularly good. Maybe roll UNSW way if you're that way inclined.

I completed my LLB at UNSW in 2008.

Both are good law schools. There's really not really much to it. Go with gut feeling.

Better to aim for 99.7 - 99.65 is the cutoff for HSC 2009 - may rise up again this year.

It's to avoid the grueling process of coming back on this site and realising that I didn't achieve my aim. (If it's not written down I can convince myself that I never aimed that high to begin with.)
