I don't think Std English is the main hindrance, its more like Drama and Photography.

Cause something like 65-70ish (forgive me, I cannot remember figure off the top my head) kids last year got a Band 6 in the entire HSC standard English cohort?

Yeah, last year no one at my school did either, the year before a kid got 2nd in state with 92 for his exam mark and 90 for his total I think.
