I would say that where a parliament is elected by the people, and that within that parliament negotiations ad compromises occur in the formulation of policy that is acceptable to a majority of mp's in both houses, that the process is perfectly democratic. I am no fan of Reverend Nile but just because I don't agree with a policy it doesn't mean I should make up some rubbish about it being undemocratic.

How is this any different from what is happening with the Greens and Labor federally?

Democracy is meaningless without choices. In this country we have a choice between two main parties which are disturbingly worse than each other.

This is a claim I have heard said about the Australian greens, people saying it's unrepresentative etc...

Wouldn't you consider it a far more perverse situation if ~13% of the electorate voting as a block, had no means to get their views represented at the federal level?

Minority parties can't veto anything on which there is bipartisan support, they only have negotiating influence on divisive issues, the two major parties are so close this doesn't often occur.

He has much more power in the Legislative Council because the numbers amongst parties is far more balanced than the overwhelming majority the Libs have in the Legislative Assembly
