[FONT=Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]Presumably that was always the case though, I don't think his support, or indeed that of Oakeshott, Bandt and Windsor has ever been unconditional in cases of serious misconduct. Also he's ruled out supporting Tony Abbott so it's not so much down to one vote, it's effectively 76-73 instead of 77-73 now. Nonetheless very disapointing to see Oakeshott torpedo the reform like this, up until now he's struck me as a pretty fair dinkum. [/FONT]​

if the trial goes ahead and is considered effective, mandatory precommitment is likely to be introduced and in a more feasible time period
if the trial goes goes ahead and precommitment is not shown to be effective then it will be rightly scrapped

seems like this evidence based approach is the way to go. whats the fuss? are people concerned about interested parties sabotaging the trial? or it get getting bogged down in a bureaucratic bayou? or subject to a change in political winds?

the $250 max withdrawal from ATMs at gaming venues seems like shit policy though

I'm saying Andrew Wilkie had a limmited window of opportunity to implement a policy which is overwhelmingly supported by the people who elected him.

so why doesn't julia gillard support the proposal, or rather, why does she say wilkie 'doesn't have the numbers'? could it be that they're not acting in the interests of their constituents, or rather, in consideration of particular constituents who oppose this legislation?

you could argue that if the proposed trial of the technology produces good outcomes, it might make it MORE likely that any future government would implement it, considering the evidence isn't partisan.

I agree, and as such a gubment probably wouldn't have any major fears about a voter backlash despite the huff and puff of the gaming industry.

Where will the boat go when Indonesia refuses to let it dock, as the Indonesian government has repeatedly said it would, as our department of Immigration has said is likely to occur?
