But if a first year applies for a cadetship, wouldn't it commence in second year anyway? Or would the first year apply for the vac work which then commences when they're in second year?

/confused
Cadetship --> 2nd year work FT w/ uni PT
Summer Vac --> Break between 2nd year and 3rd year

Hi,

Is the NSW cadetship evening listed on the ICAA website only for accounting cadetships or does it also include other cadetships in similar field?
Seems a redundant question cause its listed on the ICAA website :(

Oh, okay. That makes sense.

What month do people usually start applying for cadetships and summer vac?
Cadetships are usually around the May-June period each year but just stay on top of it by looking at the ICAA website. Some firms open earlier but they all roughly do their final offers at the same time. At the very least, they will still be open when the ICAA evening is on so make sure you have that date in mind.

Yes. The other types of cadetships typically have events organised by the respective companies/firms/etc dependent on industry.

They will but I think you need to be willing to drop the other degree given the focus of a cadetship is usually to accelerate your career and get you to be a qualified CA asap.

so they'd consider you and then recommend you drop if you got it, or would dropping be needed before applying for cadetships?

Hmm, today I got an email about a PwC internship through something I joined at uni.

Quite random :p

Isn't an internship and cadetship different? An internship would be over the semester break compared to a cadetship being along side your uni commitments.

Yes, its a 4 week opportunity over Summer or Winter break.

I just found it odd because I already have a cadetship an whatnot.

I have no idea what I signed up to at uni so I'm slightly bamboozled :p

A cadetship with PWC or another firm? Personally if I had the chance to also do an internship whilst doing a cadetship I wouldn't think twice about accepting it, additional work experience from one of the Big 4 wouldn't hurt at all.

I'm with another (much smaller) firm.

It would feel a bit wierd for me though.

"Hey boss, I cant work for the next 4 weeks... I'm doing an internship with a different firm!"

Minus 4 weeks of annual on top of it all

Yay

Shouldn't be an issue as long as its one of the main few in Sydney they approved of (UNSW, UTS, UWS, MACQ.)
Be cautious if you intend to change to Usyd though as they don't offer part time studies that allow for full time work.

Most firms will not care as long as your at university and not failing :p

Where I work now is so small we don't even really have HR

There is the owners, then my manager, then the other (actual) accountants, then me.

It's like, 10 people in total?

I'M SURE THEY WON'T MIND :rotfl:
