For commerce, I would major in accounting and finance.Assuming you work just as hard for both and everything else in your life is the same, it depends what your other major/minor/"area of specialisation" is. Being forced to do the other major as economics would be better than if you did Commerce and majored in marketing, but it would probably be worse than if you did Commerce and majored in actuarial. What is your other major going to be in either scenario?
Because the former are in such overwhelming abundance on a student forum. If only we'd thought of this beforehand. What would we do without your benevolent and omniscient musings? Hmmm. Carry on much as before, I suspect. You're best off asking industry professionals instead of students I think. The short answer is no.
Around 2 ATAR I believe.Yes it does make a difference. Hard to say whether it'll put you at a disadvantage especially given you have a few years ahead of you, but at least from what I've seen, Commerce > Economics. What's the difference in ATAR cut off?

If there is a difference in ATAR, then there'll be a difference in perception.Around 2 ATAR I believe.

TBH I always thought Commerce was a good deal higher than Economics but it's been so long since I last looked at it or cared. The reality is there is a bit of a stigma associated with it ie. "he only did B Eco because he couldn't get into Comm". Maybe that's changed a bit now since when I did the HSC, but that's how it was back then. But usually economics is a higher ATAR than commerce. Does it truly matter?

*not at all Uni'sCommerce is higher than Economics.
Look at the GO8s.*not at all Uni's
Not really. Most employers in finance don't really care. If you major in finance in either case, it doesn't really matter which degree you do. The only real difference is that in commerce, you have a greater freedom of choice for your second major (rather than be forced to major in economics). For a finance job, if I do b.eco and not b.comm will I have a disadvantage???
both majoring in finance.
My bad. It is just in 2012. Some uni's did have higher economics cut offs. I.e Sydney.Look at the GO8s.
I've checked USYD; Commerce is 95.00 and Economics is 91.55 ATAR.My bad. It is just in 2012. Some uni's did have higher economics cut offs. I.e Sydney.
I agree and disagree at the same time. Not really. Most employers in finance don't really care. If you major in finance in either case, it doesn't really matter which degree you do. For 2012 ATAR cut-offs? I swear I remember seeing it as high 80's for commerces.I've checked USYD; Commerce is 95.00 and Economics is 91.55 ATAR.
