im going to be studying a double degree actuary/commerce and have no idea what courses i am meant to enrol in. can someone please help me and explain? thanks
Choosing between MGMT1001 and FINS1613 for Semester One of Year One of an actuarial degree has been a topic extensively debated in other threads on BOS. I personally did MGMT1001 in Semester One, and I believe it was the right decision. Hence, I recommend first years to do MGMT1001 in Sem One, but at the end of the day, it's not that major which one you end up doing in Sem One.Almost everyone has given me advice to avoid MGMT for first year. WAM killer.

I recommend doing ACCT1501 instead of INFS1602.I am also going to be studying actuarial/comm and for sem 1 I picked MATH1151, FINS1613, ECON1101 and INFS1602. Are these good choices, I really have no idea?
Dead meat if all your tutorial tests and assignments happen on the same week, unless you enjoy having 4 exams/tests in one day. Also, I made my timetable and it has 4 tutes on one day and a friend told me not to cram tutes too close together cos there are exams in them. Is this true cos if it is I should probably change it a bit
It really comes down to interest tbh, in my eyes. If you have the interest and hence wish to get more exposure to commerce areas such as Accounting and Finance, then combining with Commerce is the way to go. Similarly, if you wish to learn more about higher mathematics and statistics, then combining with Advanced Maths looks good.I'm currently waiting for a scientia scholarship offer before I accept my offer (I'm interstate), but how do you guys, with an inside perspective, think actuarial studies is complemented by commerce compared to the advanced maths dual degree options?
For me, I do both of them in third year according to my plan for a combined degree with adv maths. So I can't comment muchChoosing between MGMT1001 and FINS1613 for Semester One of Year One of an actuarial degree has been a topic extensively debated in other threads on BOS. I study Actl Studies / Commerce myself. And, looking back at my first year of study in hindsight, there's nothing really I would have changed tbh. Thanks for that. I'll keep thinking.
Out of curiosity, what's your course and would you have changed anything in hindsight?
Well that's a very unusual idea.do math1151, acct1501, mgmt1001, fins1612/13
do econ1101 in sem 1 of second year cuz its easy and u can spend more time on ACTL2111 and harder stuff
