So what has happened is that I currently have a percentage of 60% for chemistry, my prelim exam is in a week. I feel like I still don't understand 70% of the content, and don't know if I will pass the exam and thus the preliminary course. What I wanted to ask is, is there a percentage mark I have to get in order to pass the course? I currently am doing 13 units and plan on dropping the subject next year as I am planning on taking extension 2 maths and will have 14 units.

I don't know if I'm just not suited for chemistry or my method of study is completely off, for context, I have approximately 80 in extension maths, 90-95 in advanced maths, 80 in advanced english, 90 in enterprise computing, 90 in engineering studies and 95 in physics. They're all relatively high, then I just have chemistry at 60, ranked at near bottom of class. I didn't struggle this much in the chemistry concepts in year 10, but this feels like a completely overwhelming subject for me. The exams aren't too hard, some of my classmates are getting 90s but I don't understand why and what are the impacts if I do bad and my average drops down to say like 50%?

yr 11 chem is really iffy. Yr 12 is way more organised. see how it goes first. if you can do e2 maths, this should come somewhat naturally to you.

so what are the consequences if you fail a prelim course? it basically just resets for y12 right? or do you get kicked from the course or have to repeat or smth

I don't know, right now I'm just spending my time trying to understand the concepts so I can get at least 50% in the exam. I'm wondering if it's possible to fail the course with a bad grade (N determination?)

nah. I didnt get an N with a 30% average on both my ist and geo last yr lfmao. Nothing can get u an n. It's little effort that determines if u n or not.

That's what I want to know 😭 since I only have 13 units, if I fail the course do I have to do it again or something? I plan on dropping it next year anyways.

I just have to decide if I need to spend a majority of my time studying chemistry so that I achieve a decent mark or spend my time revising other subjects to improve more, as I will be doing them in year 12 too.

bruh that makes a lot of sense. 30% in anything in my school is like socially unacceptable you get lowkey bullied bc we are already a goofy ass school and we need all the b6s we can get. school teachers like to remind us how we are the dumb grade lol and our rank is dropping to the 50s next year just watch

No school is perfect tho. Mine def had and the current one im in has its problems as well. We live in a world where corruption and the concept of fairness is so skewed.
