If you aren't ranked internally first but you get the highest raw HSC mark, will you be scaled less than the person in first?

raw doesnt matter its just purely ranks, so you can be first internally with 20% but get 95 externally and get an overall 95 hsc mark.

    Atar Estimate

yeah, if you feel your internal assessments were of similar difficulty to HSC then that would be more accurate than your schools estimate.
  3. T

    Atar Estimate

you need to do past years test and find the moderated mark via rawmarkinfo, you can do this for trials but you will need to do at least 5 to gauge which band level you sit at, e.g. if you constantly get low 80s for chemistry you can predict that you are currently sitting at a 91-92 hsc mark.

    Atar Estimate

its really hard to predict atar from schools stats for low b6 rates, it is more accurate to do exams from past years and predict based from rawmarksinfo. This is because even though your school may get 2 b6 in a subject, these b6 can be drastically different. e.g. 1-95 and 1-90. So it is...

How much of prelim chemistry and physics is tested in the hsc? Which specific prelim topics/concepts are needed to understand the content in year 12?

As jazz has posted for chemistry. For physics you will need most of the knowledge in module 1, except you dont really get tested on the graph from kinematics and you dont do the vector resolution question. For mod 2, no impulse and inelastic/elastic collision questions are tested, everything...

    Questions in HSC

Is it possible for HSC to ask very specific questions. e.g. For mod B, for Eliot's poems, can they ask you to do both a specific poem AND a specific theme. Or do they normally only require one of the listed. e.g. only a specific poem but open to any theme/discussion. Btw im only asking this in...

    Going into math EXT 2

If you can self teach complex number (both chapters) and be fairly competent at it, you can probably self teach the whole syllabus. Also another tip, eddie woo has some beast videos, so whenever your stuck you can just watch some of his vids.

should i give up my atar goal?

I know realistically to get into usyd its 99.95 with a 2/3 chance iirc, unsw is like min 99.2ish with a solid ucat, wsu weigh the ucat verbal reasoning highly so u probs only need like 98ish.

    How the hsc works

im pretty sure your actual internal mark doesnt matter, so say if you are 1st internally with a mark of 70% (this could be because exams maybe very difficult), but then in hsc you get a 100, your overal mark will be 100, as since your rank 1 you get the highest mark (100).

    99.95 without extension 2 maths

Yeah there is really only one scenario that scaling is useful for someone aiming for 99.95, its when you are like 98+ in 8 units and the last 2 units maybe weaker at around 94 in which mx2 will save you because of its scaling. If you are around 94 in more than 2 units you probably cant get a 99.95.

pros and cons of choosing new subjects in year 12?

It depends on what you define as 'doing a subject', for instance if you know you chose a subject purely to take up enough units and to drop after year 11, I believe it is a waste trying in that subject. However, if you are unsure of keeping the subject during the HSC I feel as though it is worth...
  13. T

    99.95 without extension 2 maths

I don't think prelims is a great indicator especially for chemistry and physics, i feel the skills these subjects assess in year 12 are much more broader as in prelims you rarely encounter any questions above 5 marks along with the fact that year 11 is 4 modules crammed into 3 terms, whereas...

    A question of class ranking

I think when your school sends your internal assessment marks to nesa they calculate the internal rank without rounding, most schools round because it doesnt really matter if they give someone a tied first and they were second because all that matters is the marks that your school sends which...

    square roots of complex numbers

this is true, but the 'a' term will always be a fraction if either x or y is a fraction, if they are both fractions then you can tell via the 'b' term, so you can tell if you can use the inspection method instantly.
