Baulkham Hills vs Girraween vs Penrith

Would personally recommend Girraween or Penrith. BHHS: - Can/ will try to accommodate for accelerated but you would simply be put in a class with year 12s - Easier to get in than Girra - Higher ranking, better scaling - More competition to motivate you -More competition (especially when it...

N Award warning impact on ATAR?

Nope, you would get the N award warning and if you fail to hand in the task you would get an N award. Basically, you would get the warnings THEN get the N award and you would need 3 N Awards to actually not have the course count. Also, once you hand in your task you're supposed to have the N...

Raw marks for a 90+ atar

Depends on your subjects/scaling, school, ranks etc. However, I think getting 85 in every subject will get you to a early/mid 90 atar mark. I know people who get 2 or 3 band 6s but still got 97 atars, so I think you will be fine with 85 (except standard english, the scaling is tragic) especially...

Is it better to make notes for modern history or just read from textbook?

I think make notes but generally, just summaries or historian quotes/ quick dates

repeating year 11 and accelerating 2U and Chemistry?

Average ATAR foir UNSW is 99.5, Usyd is .95 only. WSU and other Unis are definitely lower but that's the minimum mark, so you might get away with a high 98 ATAR and a really good UCAT score. Wouldn't recommend repeating just to do 4u though, seems like a waste of time. Maybe get into MedSci and...

What makes higher selective students outstanding?

I'm going to assume 'accept' as in transferring in after the selective test, but basically, they definitely look more towards your academics unless you're a state athlete/competitor/performer with decent marks (but mostly the academics). Obviously your extracurriculars do play in a part, but for...

Secondary school volunteers - I need advice on how to approach schools/teachers.

Most of the students who are interested in these things would most likely have LinkedIn. Offer programs or alternatives to different schools, not sure how that would work. Directly talk to not just the principal, but the careers advisor. A good one would be to hold a workshop and invite...

    2018 HSC+ATAR results discussion Thread

Yep, I heard someone topped a subject at my school so I'm pretty sure they have already been notified.

Anyone else really annoyed that everything weighs so much more now?

Very true, also means I'm not great with doing the theory tests since we were only allowed one in year 11, and 1 essay (that was done under exam conditions). It makes practicing exam technique a lot harder and we're getting a lot more stupid tests that aren't really testing what we're doing at...

    Student Number Help :(

Lol hi, this is a really dumb question but my school hasn't really talked about it so I'll keep it succinct. What is the student number that I need to write on my tests/assignments in year 12? Is it my school ID card number (starts with 400 or something like that) or the NESA number (314...)...

    Re-sitting a loud exam?

Definitely possible. A HSC chemistry exam was resat at my school for different reasons (a past paper with the same prac was given out by a tutoring center so half the grade had already seen it), but it's definitely worth a shot since we were able to do another prac.

    Starting Tutoring in Year 11

Pretty much same situation for me, I would recommend starting tutoring for the sciences, especially if your teachers aren't that great. For physics and chemistry I would really recommend either Sigma or Hero Education, both are really good, cover content well and greater teachers who are...

    year 11 subject selections

I know quite a few people who didn't do art as an elective and still chose art as a subject for year 11 and 12. I think you will honestly be fine if you are willing to put in the work. VA is a pretty fun subject but also has a lot of theory which is quite difficult. I think if you enjoy VA more...

North Sydney boys or Sydney boys

If you play sport at such a high level it would be good to meet more like minded people since sports is such an integral aspect of sb. However, the academic aspect will obviously be better at nsb. I honestly believe you should go to whichever one you have more friends at. Both are pretty good...

    Girraween/Fort Street High school

Don't think so yet, Baulkham Hills just had their interviews and Girra needs to wait for them to confirm the numbers so they can allow new spaces. I think they'll call in about 2 weeks.

    Band 1

Nah you only repeat if you get an N award and failing one exam is fine as long. To get an N award it means you didn't satisfactorily complete y11 so not even just failing but like a non attempt. So unless you skipped an exam you're good.

Preparation For Year 12 - Please Help!

I've used Physics and Chem in Focus and it's not too bad, not sure about Pearson but most schools go with Pearson for both chem and phys. See what your school is buying before you buy! However, I have heard Pearson is better for chemistry, so if your school doesn't provide textbooks I would go...

Physics Tutoring : what is Zhang's really like?

I would say go for Matrix, even though it's pricier, the resources are honestly amazing. They are very in-depth, cover all the syllabus points well with a good balance of theory and practical questions (and answers).

Subject Lines & Availiability (physics isn't running!!!)

Yep, DE sucks ass and I definitely would not recommend it, especially for physics since it is a hard subject. Push for more people to do the subject if you vcan, just enough so it can run. This happened to my school for music where 8 people chose it but it wasn't going to run. Enough complaints...
