    some simple questions

shall we do gcd of {(100!25!60!),(10!10!10!10!10!10!)} and see how long it takes you to do it? and how long it takes me? also, the calculator's fraction function is WAY overrated. doesn't work with most exponentials... the numbers involved are simply too large.. I guess this is no longer...

    some simple questions

I stand by my method.. having actually used it in exams where no calculators are allowed... but then, you're entitled to your opinion. BTW, you don't just "count" like I did in the example, you use floor functions eg [100/2]+[100/2^2]+.... but anyway. Work to do. I do accept the point about...

    some simple questions

boo. Your method doesn't generalise... so if the question were like 100! then you'd take forever! Granted, though, for this question it's probably safer... if not quicker.. :P I reckon I'd do my method quicker than you'd do yours.. but then, now I'm just being annoying. Both methods work.

    some simple questions

okay... the way you do 2) is to find the prime factor decomposition of both sides. 5!20!=2^21*3^9*5^5*7^2*11*13*17 10!15!=2^19*3^10*5^5*7^3*11*13 the way we find this out? Umm.. okay. I'll demonstrate with 2 and 5. for 5!20!, we want to find how many 2's there are in the product. in...

    quick maths question....

hmm... to be honest I've never done general maths. I'm assuming that the stuff isn't in 2, 3 or 4U so looks foreign to me... if it IS then can someone pm me or just reply on this thread? In that case, sorry.. but I know it doesn't belong on 4U :)

    some simple questions

    1) yes, BUT: it's not "prove it is non-integer" but rather irrational. Therefore the equation is 10^x=15^y 2) Simplify them by considering the number of 2's multiplied together on LHS, then RHS, and repeat. eg in 5! there are 3 powers of 2, 20! there are 18, so 21 on LHS. RHS: similarly you...

    quick maths question....

why do people never put things in the right forum? This is NOT MX2 stuff. This is first year commerce stuff. So go put it in the extracurricular part..
  8. turtle_2468

    locus question

the lazy answer: I'm pretty sure this isn't in the HSC syllabus :) There are programmes which curveplot for you.. hang on, I have one of those.. too late. I'll try tomorrow if someone reminds me :)

something new on the "pi and e" debate...

From the last 2 years I've spent moderating, if I were a betting man, I'd probably say that he'll be back. In approximately 3 months... then the cycle will begin anew.

What's the first game you played?

lol!! I used to play that get over mountains game all the time at school... year 4 for me too :P

What's the first game you played?

LOL... I do remember that crazy encarta game, we used to play it on the school computer :P Anyway, my first game was back in '89 or '90, 5.25" floppy (no MS-DOS mind you, just the disk :P), TETRIS! hehe... 16 years of gaming and counting...

    Re: Trial Exams READ!!!

hmm... good point. Can someone confirm for me that security period is over? I recall a post in the thread that said they didn't want to see it because they were sick or something... I'll check again later tonight, if the overwhelming consensus is that it should go back up + no risk, then I'll...

    CHanges to Mathematics @ UNSW

General reply from reading post for 2 minutes (sorry.. I should have taken more time.. I know, pm me if you want me to read more thoroughly): Yes, changes are happening. Independent learning is an OK way of learning, but I think that classroom learning is actually a lot more useful. This is...

    Re: Trial Exams READ!!!

PLEASE do not write anything about the exams. You guys know as well as I do that some people haven't done the exam, and putting it up on various sites is very likely to cause trouble, or at least have the trouble to do so. While I know that you are also very eager to talk about how you did in...

EDIT: I declare this thread closed.

    help: integrate x[(4-x)^0.5]

I guess u=4-x is slightly more intuitive plus it saves ugliness in the substitution bit (only du=-dx). But slide rule does have a point, both work.. and in the 4U exam particularly, no matter how ugly the solution as long as it's right you'll get full marks for it.. (most maths exams in fact :P)
