    help on stats prob

mouse: Stop posting on MX2 forum when you know that the problems aren't from MX2. It's really not helpful to the others, and you have done this before... if you do it again I'll... do something grumpy... PS posting in extracurricular is fine... but don't mislead others plz..

    Conics Help PLEASE!

Umm... quick walkthrough for Q1: Let P be (x_1,y_1). Use tangent formulae (if you learnt them in class) to get Q, Q'. Now we know coords of S, so we can calculate the gradients of SQ and SQ' - let them be m_1, m_2. Now m_1*m_2=-1 hence they are perpendicular... if no one answers this by...

    Help with axiom

because then you'd be complaining about all the irrelevant (ie don't need for HSC) stuff you have in the textbook which pushes the price up by another $5...

    Help with axiom

Or, to be more honest, that it's well known but I'm too lazy to prove it right now.. actually considering the age of the post, right then..

    1/0 - 1/0 = ???

subtraction is only defined for defined numbers.. :-)

    nice... :-)

    Proving stuff

The same... Disclaimer: The one I wrote above is just hte one I normally use, I didn't copy it from anywhere so you could theoretically be docked a mark for it. :-) In hindsight it's probably good to write "from the first 2 parts"..

Rearrangement?? Good point re lagrange estel... I _am_ growing rusty..

    Proving stuff

Not allocating a mark doesn't mean that you don't get a mark off if you just miss it altogether... eg simplify root(15)-5/root(15)+5 If you make a mathematical error in a line where a mark isn't awarded, and then somehow you get back on the right track, ppl still have to take a mark off :-)...

    Am-gm

Lets try listing all of them... just for fun... 1) Expansion like above, generalise to 2^n, sub back in to simplify 2) Jensen's/log Someone help me out here... :-P

    Help with axiom

Well you're assuming the uniqueness of z^-1 :-) (easily provable, I'll leave it as an exercise :-P) But quibbles aside that works too..

    Help with axiom

?? Is this a competition to see whether someone would answer a q or something? :-)

    Help with axiom

If z is not zero then there exists a c (in F) s.t. cz=zc=1. (property of field) If xz=yz, then xzc=yzc So x=y as req'd.

    Question..

There's some formula involving the partial derivative of g wrt x and pd of g wrt y. It should be in any decent multivariate textbook...

    yes indeed :-P

Student Elections / Elections / General BS

The thing is, life IS that simple... I think sometimes we get so caught up in our own lives that we think that that is all there is to it... but in those quiet moments, when there isn't another assignment just around the corner, we realise that what we do won't last forever... Christianity...
