Think my friend's tutor may have written part of her assessment?!

Just know that she can't get away with it forever. With unseen questions, she's going to burn unless she practises herself. I know it's unfair, especially if you're working hard, but remember that hard work WILL pay off. So stop worrying about her, and focus on yourself! Screw what everyone else...

Can anyone do extension 2 Mathematics?

+1 Remember that 3U --> 4U is a huge stepping stone. They probably will do fine, but the brighter ones will be at the top because they can just "see it" better than us normal people can There's a limit to a human's ability. Saying that, it doesn't hurt to push it a little.

Can you theoretically "state rank" in prelim?

Top ~5 schools have hard exams + others of course; and yeah Hurlstone's exams are pretty easy. They're not 'challenging'. Until you get your external marks back from the BOS, you'll never know. Plus, majority of people are lazy in prelims. Some people just brighten up when HSC starts.

Is getting a tutor worth it??

A good thing about maths tutors (good ones) is that they teach you these little tricks school won't. So consider getting one!

    Question on a dotpoint

^ Adding to that, there'll be parts which require you identify the trend and then explain it, which, together is around 3-5 marks.

Woah, you beast! Seems like everyone who left is doing well. If you haven't already heard, Emily's coming 2nd for English at JR and top 10 for most of her subjects and Kelvin's topping maths and 'up there' for most of his subjects too. Well there goes our state rankers :L

    Prelim Notes?

I think BOS have very good resources. You just don't know which ones are the best, but nevertheless each have their own speciality.

Should I get an English tutor ?

Depends on your marks and especially your ranks. If you're doing fine, then you don't need English tutor. For me, I've been to 5 English tutors and let's say they help you gain knowledge but the actual language is something you'd have to find yourself. Personally, I don't think you need one...

    Sydney Tech Tests Tomorrow

You should ask/get advice off RivalryofTroll! He aced the exam/interview :)

    What ranks do I need?

If you actually go tutor with some people in the top schools, then you'll know if your cohort is actually 'strong.' But even so, it isn't really clear because I know some people at like Baulko who don't try for tutor but top their grade.

    Transferring into Medicine...yes, another one...:)

Just see how you go in year 12 and see if you have the potential to get 99.95. If you can't, think of other options like going interstate and try not to be too disappointed. Because, you know, one fatal mistake in your HSC year will not get you your desired mark.

    GAMSAT & Dentistry at USYD

For GAMSAT you also need credit/distinction averages But your actual bachelor degree gives you no advantage

    Yearlies are approaching, preliminary-ers!

Well they give us 2 assessment free weeks. That'll be study time. Other than that I'm screweD

    Literally failing... What to do?

If you're "literally failing" does that mean the other half of your grade who are lower than you also fail? To be honest, those ranks look pretty good, contrary to what you think for an ATAR >70

Extension 2 subject selection for year 12

I heard the extension 2 circle geometry questions are VERY hard. You can do MX2. Practise makes 'perfect' :)
  20. such_such

Do you need Ext 1 English to get an atar of 99.8+?

They're going to count the top 10 units. If you do well in it, it will count. If you don't, then it won't be calculated towards your ATAR. Advanced it very different to Extension and the only advantage of EE1 is that you get more experience writing and some concepts might overlap. Basically...
