Hey everyone, If you need help with ECON1203, FINS1613 or any other ECON/FINS subjects of any year level involving math or stats, The Educational Development Unit (EDU) has a new free numeracy consultation service for ASB students. This is a one-on-one consultation focused on supporting...

    Actuarial Studies

Yes you can, that's one of the main reasons to people do double degrees with actuarial. However, depending on the major you might not be able to fit 3 in even if you are doing a double degree so be careful. E.g. if you do actuarial/science and you want to major in actuarial + finance +...

    Actuarial Studies

Oh lol...its just a generic economics major going by the list of courses. No real specialisation. The 3 specialisations are what I mentioned before, I would recommend one of those 3, I don't know if you can get much out of this business economic thing, seems just like a mash of all the possible...

    Actuarial Studies

Whats business economics? Is that a major at UNSW? Economics is so broad so I'll just summarise the 3 economics majors @ UNSW. The financial economics major at UNSW is concerned with forecast modelling, by looking at past data. E.g. given the time series for GDP of last 30 years, fit a model to...

    Actuarial Studies

Nothing is amazingly complementary, but if I had to choose then either finance or financial economics. I'm doing financial economics and while it doesn't have that much direct applications in an actuarial role, I can see it being useful in an insurance company. Business law could come in handy...

    Actuarial Studies

They offer a financial economics major. Economics is a very broad term, in UNSW its split into economics (mostly theoretical about policies etc), financial economics (time series stuff, forecasting models etc), and econometrics major (modelling).

    Actuarial Studies

Tbh nothing LOL. I started in actuarial/advanced math (5 years), dropped to actuarial/statistics (4 years), dropped to actuarial/economics (4 years), now just doing actuarial (double major, 3 years), but underloading so I spread it out across 4 years to get my Part IIs. It hasn't impeded me...

    Actuarial Studies

Yes there's 3 4th-year level courses you need to do in order to get your Part IIs, so you'd do them in the 4th year. The rest will probably be accounting courses.

    Actuarial Studies

Full qualifications is completing your Part IIIs. A standard 3 year degree lets you complete Part Is. You need another year to do Part IIs, which can be done while you work, or if you do a double degree/honors which gives you a 4th year (at an accredited uni, which both macq and unsw are). Part...

    Actuarial Studies

Hey there, I'm a 3rd year student in actuarial studies at UNSW with some industry experience, so I can probably give a reasonable go at your questions Macquarie vs UNSW? and reasons If your choosing base on prestige/quality of degree, nowadays it is about the same. I wouldn't put one over the...

    Help please.

Don't feel like you have to go there, or any other tutoring centers. I teach at Ngo & Sons and there are people who pull out for various reasons, e.g. the style of teaching isn't suited to them. It's not a guarantee of band 6 for sure.

When are the marks on transcripts updated?

I think they update it like 1-2 days after releasing online, not 100% sure though

    Actuarial Studies vs Engineering

Before the changeover to actuarial studies (before it was a major in commerce), you could combine with engineering. I can't guarantee you this option will exist soon, but as a new degree they're opening up a few double degree options. E.g. this year they released combined with commerce.

Masters in something thats not your undergrad

I think it's pretty common to do Masters in something unrelated to your undergraduate. For my course (actuarial), there is a masters program for those who did actuarial undergrad, and one for those who didn't. The latter one starts from the very basics, but I think you still need some very basic...

    Actuarial Studies vs Engineering

There is one first year actuarial course that is a bit weird, not as mathy as you'd expect. That has changed this year onwards with a new lecturer though.
