    Actuarial Studies

Still, I bet if I went and did an arts degree my WAM will probably halve.

    Actuarial Studies

Cut off was 97. Even though a lot of people drop it isn't necessarily because people can't handle it. A lot of people have no idea what actuarial studies is about, and after trying it for 1-2 years they realise it isn't for them, so they move on. I think there's too much stigma attached to...

    Actuarial Studies

I doubt it, it is a new degree so they wouldn't make any drastic changes after just a year. Plus 97 is already a very high cutoff, probably stay around the same

    Actuarial Studies

If you went to info day you should've seen me at the actuarial studies stand. There are some credits in the course, which is kind of the minimum you need to progress.

    Actuarial Studies

That's a fine line to draw lol. I feel like I'm having a hard time once in a while, it's hard to know whether you really like it or you just want to give up because it is too hard

    Actuarial Studies

That's actually not entirely true. For the money actuaries make, the workload is very good relatively. Your hours won't be significantly different to any other finance/accounting professionals, i.e. 9-5 with overtime here or there. You get paid that much because of how hard it was for you to get...

Any benefit in doing B Actuarial Studies/Law ?

Firstly, don't do it just because you have the ATAR. Secondly, workload will be very intense. I know two people doing it and one is pretty much at genius level and he has difficulty coping with it sometimes. Thirdly, career wise I can't say for sure. Knowledge in law is almost always...

    Actuarial Studies

Okay newbies I'll clear some stuff up. I'm in my 3rd year in actuarial studies and I do enjoy it. I highly recommend against taking advice from anyone who hasn't given actuarial studies a go yet, there is a lot of misconceptions going around. Yes its hard, perhaps one of the most challenging...

Difference between Bachelor of Actuarial Studies and combined w/ Commerce?

In the 3 year degree most people do a double major. In the 4 year degree you can do a triple major. There aren't really that many majors that compliment ACTL other than finance and maybe economics, so if you want a double maybe try it with economics or science

1st yearer needing help here with timetable!!

    1. most likely yes, you don't have to but its a good idea to get the compulsory ones out of the way first. Usually higher courses have prerequisite for you to do the compulsory ones first 2. it's pretty flexible, just do the ones necessary for your major and start from first year courses and...

    Actuarial Studies

I'm doing the course and I can tell you that rather than the stuff you learn in 3U (a lot of which are still important), its more about your ability to understand maths and its concepts. Take a bridging course if you want, but do a bit more research on the actuarial program before you decide...

Law entry should be made harder

I think it is mostly because people don't get any exposure to law in high school and have no idea what is it entails. Rather than another academic test on top of the high ATAR requirement, it might be better to make Legal Studies in HSC a prequisite, so at least people going into law has some...
