TPC or HSC for 16 year old who's been out of school since early 2011.

Just do TPC, I think it is one year and if you do well you are guaranteed to get into university. Once you get into university you can transfer and all that stuff. If I was in your situation I would keep my options open. Don't limit yourself to psycho.

Year 11 2013 Chit Chat Thread

MX1 is significantly more difficult than 2U but scales very well and is very useful in my opinion because there is just so much applied maths in it (depends on what you want to do at uni too) :)

    Chem or ancient?!

You definitely can rote-learn and excel in chemistry. Have a look at the success book of past papers, most of the answers are written responses but it is easier for me to understand the concepts and not memorise everything because memorising everything is time consuming.

    Chem or ancient?!

None of the preliminary subs get tested in the HSC except maths. Yes, I do chemistry and I like it very much. I am actually thinking of doing chemistry at uni (only if I get into USYD combined medicine). The work load is not very high if you know how to learn, i.e. not rote-learn everything but...

Last movie you watched? And what you thought of it?

Django Unchained- easily the best movie of the year, or of the 2000's, or is that a little bit too much? End of Watch- great.

    Chem or ancient?!

Doesn't get tested! You made the right decision. Chem gets very interested and it is definitely very useful and applicable in real life.

    HSC 2012-2015 Chemistry Marathon (archive)

re: HSC Chemistry Marathon Archive Hey guys, I have a questions here: I did this questions in a past paper but my teacher said I wouldn't get a full mark because my solution has a contradiction... The question is: Evaluate the suitability and potential of ethanol as a fuel source in terms of...

    Trigo. product

    $Can we do it by evaluating the following product:$ \prod_{k=0}^6 \sin(k\pi/7) We can do this by expressing the sine as complex exponentials. \frac{z^7-1}{z-1}=\prod_{k=1}^6 (1- \zeta^k) $with$ \zeta = \cos(\pi/7) + i\sin(\pi/7). $Let z go to 1.$

    HSC 2013 MX2 Marathon (archive)

    Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon $No.$ $You start with this:$ a_{1}+a_{2}+\cdot\cdot\cdot+a_{n}= \left ( 1-\frac{1}{2} \right )(1.2a_{1})+\left ( \frac{1}{3}-\frac{1}{4} \right )(3.4a_{2})+\cdot\cdot\cdot+\left ( \frac{1}{2n-1}-\frac{1}{2n} \right )((2n-1).2na_{n}) $Think about making use of the AM-GM...

    HSC 2013 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon If I don't manage to achieve it I will still be perfectly happy knowing that the HSC is over because all I want is to go to uni :)

    HSC 2013 MX2 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2013 4U Marathon If no one does this question I will post the solution soon. It is very tricky.

    Chem or ancient?!

The answer to this is very simple. If you want to do anything scientific at university then you should do chemistry. It is the best and most well structured science course in the HSC IMO. HSC Chemistry is assumed knowledge for many science-related courses at university. If you do not want to...

    Ext 1 Maths.

    \Sigma \alpha =-\frac{b}{a}=3 \Sigma \alpha\beta =\frac{c}{a}=4 \Pi \alpha =-\frac{d}{a}=-2 6(\alpha +\beta +\gamma +1)-1=23 \frac{1}{\alpha \beta }+\frac{1}{\beta \gamma }+\frac{1}{\gamma \alpha }=\frac{\alpha +\beta +\gamma }{\alpha \beta \gamma }=-\frac{3}{2} \alpha ^{2}+\beta ^{2}+\gamma...

    Ext 1 Maths.

It is significantly harder than the maths you have done so far but it is not difficult at all, you just need to change the way you think/study. My advice to you is to try to learn WHY you got the question right and WHY you got it wrong and try to recognise a pattern or a structured approach to...

People don't know HOW to learn.

It is also the wisest thing to do because, as I said, critical thinking/conceptual understanding is essential for university success. I would love it if the HSC was structured in a way so that it is significantly harder to rote-learn. This would force people to develop the very essential skills...

People don't know HOW to learn.

What do you mean by students "don't know HOW to learn"? What is there to "learn"? The HSC is structured in a way that is suitable for people with average intelligence. Take physics as an example. HSC physics is not real physics. It is nothing like what people do at university. MX1 has more...
