    Actuarial Studies

That salary is not outdated (as far as I know for the traditional actuarial role) and you WILL be receiving that kind of salary if you are a qualified actuary (fellow). Initial pay once you've graduated university with your part Is and maybe your part IIs will be average to above-average pay...

    Actuarial Studies

lol that's exaggerated, I'm going to guess like 30 (at most) out of the 180 to begin with? I'm not sure myself. Economics in 1st year is not extremely difficult and is taught from scratch (so don't worry about having prior knowledge). It's interesting. :)

    UNSW 2014 Rollcall

Re: UNSW 2013ers Rollcall Actuarial / Science (II) To 1st years, don't expect a lot of maths as you only do one MATH course a sem (in 1st year). The number of WAM killing courses you're going to do..............

Which maths topics can be self-learned?

Like the others have said, all of them. But I"d say the easier ones are integration, log/exponential, trig functions, further trig and further calculus.

    Integration by First Principles

It's a theorem, not a style of question. Not sure which questions you mean though, have a read: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squeeze_theorem

    Squeeze theorem that is.

Some questions about uni [unsw], please helpp :)

Not sure if I agree with you here. From my experience with MATH1151 & 1251, 80% of the exam set for the finals is pretty much identical to past papers and tests basic concepts, and 20% are things a bit different that requires a bit of understanding to do. I don't think any of those questions...

    Complex Numbers

Rotate P by 90 degrees anticlockwise so you get iz, which would be R. Add the two complex numbers representing P and R to get Q, so (1 + i)z. You could choose to rotate P 90 degrees clockwise first, either way is fine.

Thanks again. :) Btw have fun at the party tmrw if you're going

    Mathematical Curiosities.

    Thanks a lot for that asianese! The last part seems a bit confusing, so would it still be correct to see it this way? F_0(y) = G_0(x) + C \implies F_0(y) + C' = G_0(x) + C'',\;\text{where } C = C''-C' \implies \int f(y) dy = \int g(x) dx Comparing this to \frac{dy}{dx} = \frac{g(x)}{f(y)}...

    Mathematical Curiosities.

lol we've definitely used it, but I don't recall ever having it proven/justified, just explained very wish-washily by my tutor.

    Mathematical Curiosities.

    1. So we have the triangle inequality... but where did it come from? 2. Why/how does the method of variables separable work?

    HSC 2013 MX2 Marathon (archive)

    Re: HSC 2014 4U Marathon Suppose w.l.o.g. that 1 > a_1 \geq a_2 \geq ... \geq a_n. (1+\frac{1}{a_1})(1+\frac{1}{a_2})...(1+\frac{1}{a_n}) \geq (1+\frac{1}{a_1})^n Now, consider the sum a_1 + a_2 + ... + a_n \geq na_1 As a_1 + ... + a_n = 1, 1 \geq na_1 n \leq \frac{1}{a_1} \therefore...

Sorry as ATM, I've scheduled meetings with a few people to give them all away so far. If someone bails or I happen to resurface more materials, I'll make a new thread or post an update.
