Coroneos or Terry Lee for 4U?

The best publicly available Extension 2 book, in my opinions, is the new Fitzpatrick. If you can afford to get both Coroneos and T. Lee, you may as well just buy the Fitzpatrick book + Solutions book.

    Decrypt this maths love story?

Once upon a time, there was a man named "Dot Product". We will suppose that his initials are F.D, because it is far more preferable than D.P for reasons :awesome: (edit: Found the smiley I wanted) The dollar was increasing at that time but he was still worthless. He met a sexy girl and he was...

    Reference sheet...pls help

I do not think the difficulty will change for a few reasons. Firstly, recall that students pre-2015 have a table of standard integrals. However, this did not stop the board from asking stock standard "Evaluate X integral" straight from the formula sheet. In actual fact, in 2010 HSC Q1 (a), they...

    HSC 2016 MX1 Marathon (archive)

Re: HSC 2016 3U Marathon What is 'too large'? What makes your margin of error 'better' than another one? And as you mentioned, these questions are ideally done without any sort of numerical analysis.

    Extension 2 Inequalities

I think this was addressed already.

    Extension 2 Inequalities

This is perfectly fine and any teacher wishing to not award you full marks for this should seriously consider a new profession.

    Extension 2 Inequalities

I would be wary about using this, although it is mathematically correct. HSC markers are absolutely ruthless against students trying any sort of 'backwards' method of inequality proofs. They've been known to give zero the instant they see anything that remotely smells like a backwards proof...

    Extension 2 Inequalities

I teach my kids to work backwards (in the case that they have absolutely no clue and are desperate), but starting from the bottom of the page. This way, it looks like you're a genius and figured out each step magically, and the work is literally halved compared to the method you outlined.

Do people usually find complex numbers hard?

Complex Numbers + Polynomials are probably some of the more 'abstract' topics in the Extension 2 course. By abstract, I mean quite theory heavy + few diagrams to relate it to. I would not say Complex Numbers is the easiest topic. The difficulty range would be from 1 to 10, whereas say Conics...

Re: HSC 2016 4U Marathon - Advanced Level If we prove it for n>2, I'm sure that includes n>3 =)

HSC 2016 MX2 Marathon ADVANCED (archive)

Re: HSC 2016 4U Marathon - Advanced Level There do exist integers for n=2 sastisfying the above (Pythagorean Triads). This establishes our base case. The rest of the proof is left as an exercise for the reader.

Proposed changes to the Mathematics syllabus: Thoughts?

Fell sick today so I wasn't able to attend the consultation unfortunately. However, I will be attending the one in two weeks' time so that'll give me time to perhaps share my thoughts on the changes and the reasoning behind it. I'll write a short document for this. For the mean time, I'd...

    Did I prove this right?

Looks good except: - In your 5th line (the lone equal sign), you forgot to get rid of the +pi when turning it into -r^3 cis(3 theta). - Best that z_2 should be r cis (theta plus/minus pi/3), since to form the equilateral triangle you can rotate either clockwise or anticlockwise. Proof doesn't...

Proposed changes to the Mathematics syllabus: Thoughts?

As you all know, the gears are now moving to work towards constructing the new Mathematics syllabus, for all levels of Mathematics. Here is the Draft Writing Brief for the calculus-based courses (Advanced, Extension 1 and 2 Mathematics). The proposed course contents are listed starting from...

Carrotsticks' Solutions 2015 Extension 1 HSC

Definitely not. Very hard to say for this one. If many people did not attempt it, and the question was done poorly overall, then it is more likely you may get away with this. Otherwise, if a decent enough (I am using this term loosely as I do not know exact figures) number of students DO get...
