It's usually smart to take a gap year if you've got a 99+ atar and resit umat, but if u fuck up umat, you've basically wasted a year where as if you were at uni, you would've finished 1st year and hence 1 year closer to finishing your degree and doing post-grad med.

i've heard that marks throughout uni won't matter what so ever. Not sure how true it is tho.
