Yeah, but I just like USB points!

Definitely a Mac, I don't think it matters which type really but it has to have USB ports! If you are doing music or media based subjects you could get a pro, but if you are just doing more writing based subjects an Air would be fine!

I think it should be fine, granted, I didn't end up using it in the actual HSC since we were only specified 1 related material.

'Invictus' by William Ernest Henley is a pretty good one, if you are fine with using an older poem (published in 1888).

If you have a library near you, that can work as well! I remember in the study period coming up to the HSC and during the HSC I practically lived at my local library, which was good for individual study and for group study! If possible, could you ask your teachers for past Half yearly exams...
