Media Arts/Computer Science - Do I need a laptop? (Win or Mac?)

Yes, Windows is fine, but it will be a lot easier if you get a machine with Linux or Mac OS. If you're going to get a Windows computer, dualboot it - VMs are slower. If you're paranoid about breaking your computer while dualbooting, come to a CSESoc installfest in semester one and people'll set...

    I like a good challenge.

    MATH1131 or MATH1141?

I don't know about PHYS11[23]1, but the extra work I had to put in for MATH1141 was...well, worth it, but if I had to focus on other subjects more I wouldn't have done MATH1141.

    Math1141 lecturers?

Potapov is funny, he was a pretty good tutor - but I don't know what he's like as a lecturer. Grossman I had as a tutor as well, but he wasn't too great...Doust is decent. (admittedly, though, that didn't stop me from falling asleep in the 9am lectures...) Personally I'd go for Potapov/Schief if...

    MATH1131 Lectures - can't decide between lecturers

Britz is awesome :) He's really happy and eager to help. I emailed him with a number of questions and he thanked me for asking them, and wished me a good weekend. (Even if you didn't have him as your lecturer I'm sure he'd be still happy to help)

Buying a laptop for Computer Science....

Yeah, OSX is perfectly fine. Dualbooting, as you suggested, isn't needed,

    Lost

Okay :) I did it in 2010, and it's changed since then, but I shouldn't be completely wrong. Hopefully. If you have no programming experience? It's a difficult course. It's not anything I'd done before - the closest subject to it is mathematics, because of how much you have to think and figure...

    Lost

This isn't helpful if you're not able to get into science @ UNSW, but you can take a Science degree, do first semester computer science subjects, and just transfer later into computer science. (I've a friend who did this)

    UNSW 2014 Rollcall

Re: UNSW 2014ers Rollcall Yeah, there's a camp for first year co ops (and later year coops who've just joined the program) and a couple of events in the beginning of the year. There's also BBQs around once a semester, and CoopSoc sometimes throws events too.

    Comp Sci vs Software Engineering

There are numerous differences between the computer science and software engineering degrees. pros of computer science: computer science has many more free electives. If you take software engineering, you have to take a number of courses that computer science doesn't have to do - COMP3141...

4 period from 6 period days

In high school I had four periods. I liked it better, since I could focus on the subject for longer instead of having to be interrupted more often. Although, I did get considerably restless in subjects which I considered boring.

    ENGG1000 for Comp Sci

Oops sorry, didn't see this. You email the lecturer asking them to get a prerequisite waived, and state why you think you'd be able to do it without the prereq. If you get their permission, you then forward this email giving permission to the CSE Student Office (undergrad@cse). When emailing the...

    Co-op Scholarship

What D94 said :) You pay back all the money since your last ITE, and you must also give sufficient notice or you have to pay back 6 months worth of scholarship funds. (see: page 7 of http://www.coop.unsw.edu.au/current_scholars/downloads/files/scholarmanual.pdf) i.e. if you drop out after a year...
