Hey! Thanks for your response, I'll keep what you said in mind. Well, I have some overseas activities I'm thinking about and have applied to (July Language Exchanges, as I'm currently doing a language unit), and I've found some opportunities for ~leadership~ and I'm applying to internships...

    MQ Chatter Thread

I got selected to represent Macquarie Uni in a Canberra delegation (it's one of those GLP symposium things) I spent 2017 not doing much, so I'm trying to make myself more ~employable~ and make the most of my MQ experience. My grades are modest, nothing special, nothing bad. If anyone...

Am I too old for uni?

I was 22 when I started my course at Macquarie. You are fine. University opens up many doors of opportunities. The idea people have to be a certain age to attend uni is just false.

Hey, so today was kind of tough at uni. I was called 'immoral' by another student (for the stupidest stuff) and just treated me poorly, claiming I was saying things. Like, so many logical fallacies. The tutor did nothing. I want to drop the subject, but its a core for one of my majors. I'm just...

    MQ Chatter Thread

That's an excellent idea! Think about who you already know at university and then "branch out" to others. If you, like me don't know a single person, you are kind of in a tough situation. I had no friends for a year, but this year I'm already part of study groups and various meet-ups. You do...

    MQ Chatter Thread

Depending on your cohort, sometimes friends can be made during study / class times. I know that isn't for everyone (big classes tend to make this near impossible)- but you can always add them on facebook for study reasons, and then say 'hey let's do something after this exam.' Friendships take...

    Diploma of languages

Do you want to do Japanese over other languages? If so, do Japanese. Languages require motivation, and if you are just seeking to become more 'employable' you will not reach a high standard. Weak motives don't last long in language learning. You may want to consider exchange / residencies, like...

I've heard some interesting tales about MKTG101... anyway hope everyone's first week is going alright. Would also like to know where the ATMS are! (especially for NAB)

Hey thanks for the answers everyone to my ECON question. Much appreciated. I might do ECON110 next semester. I'll see how things turn out.

Snowflek, I wish you alot of encouragement in your studies! First days go like a whirlwind, but you'll get through your first week. Any problems, you can always talk to someone about it. I'm 2nd year, thinking of transferring into a new degree and I just took the 'introductory' subject for a B...

Making Maths Compulsory for HSC students

Well, although mathematics certainly has its uses it is not for everyone. I think making it compulsory is too excessive. As for English, I do understand both sides of this argument. I don't find it to be a 'useless' subject, but take-home exams and essays are nicer than a huge closed book...

Credit transfer from Mq to USyd comm/law

Do you know any other law students who have transferred from Macq to Usyd and gotten credit for more subjects?

    MQ Chatter Thread

I've kind of become disillusioned with history at the moment. Maybe its just a phase that I'll knock out of, but I thought about enrolling in ECON110 or ECON111 to give economics a go. Do these units assume a certain level of mathematical skills? I'm okay with maths, but I haven't touched on it...

Secondary Education at La Trobe Bendigo & HECS loan

Hello. Okay, first things first- you are still eligible for HECs. There is a limit on FEE-HELP, but none for HECs (I think). So you are fine. When I started my uni degree (I'm 23) I started when I was 22 and I already had around $10,000 in debt. So I wouldn't stress about that. I've never...

    Journalism

With Journalism, the general consensus amongst students is that a) experience is key b) core media units are always a drag and can be difficult to enjoy. I don't like endlessly praising or dismissing a career choice, but with journalism, like alot of media industries its very 'who you know'...

    Bringing textbooks to uni

Nah, it's probably not necessary unless its said so. Key questions and points should be raised in lectures / tutorials. I always see textbooks as what you are expected to read outside of the class.

Law and Business at UTS or Bachelor of Economics at UNSW

Neither. When you apply for grad jobs, there will be others who did the same degree as you. There are only a few positions. Having a degree is seen as a requirement, not an advantage for alot of employers. So ask yourself better questions. What skills would I need to have to get such a...

Should I take a gap year to reapply for university?

I'm unfamiliar with radiography's career prospects and I hope someone will answer that question in more detail. Do you have any interest in taking a gap year? I took personally alot of time off between high school and university, and I'm 23 and just in my 2nd year. Yeah, I do regret wasting...

Credit transfer from Mq to USyd comm/law

Yes, you should campaign. Like Zoinked said, you have nothing to lose in trying. 'Strengthen' up your application by referencing textbooks, assessments, etc. Get the unit guides. Make it clear that 3 credit points at Macquarie is the exact same as 6 credit points at Usyd. Do you remember how...
