    USYD Chatter Thread 2016

Re: USYD Chatter Thread - Semester 1 2016 I've got one spare junior elective left for Commerce. Has anyone done ECON1003 or ACCT1006? What do people think about these units?

    HSC 2016 Economics Marathon

Re: 2016 HSC Economics marathon Use your short run AS/AD model. The Phillips curve explains short-run AD shocks. When there is a short-run increase in AD, output increases (so unemployment should decrease as it is derived from the demand for production) and inflation increases. The opposite...

    Multilateral and Bilateral Help Please

With bilateral agreements, they are very quick to set up and it is more stable to maintain (from a game theory perspective, it is a lot easier to maintain cooperation between two parties than three or more parties in a prisoners dilemma type situation). However bilateral agreements may lead to...

Dixon Workbook help in regards to a subsidy graph

There is no 'quota' price per se, but the importer will sell at their reservation price for the new quantity (i.e. at 12). This is not necessarily revenue neutral for governments, however, as they also may be able to charge for import licences.

Dixon Workbook help in regards to a subsidy graph

Yep, that's almost what I have. Before the subsidy, imports should be 60. The subsidy is $4 per unit on domestic production, or 4x50 = $200 in total

Subject selection (4u english with 6 other units)

English Extension 2 is always a risk. Someone in my cohort who got the same internal as me (48/50) ended up getting 28/50 for externals. The markers weren't that keen on mine either, so my HSC mark dropped quite a bit, and that ended up being my 10th unit that counted for the ATAR (so it pulled...

    costs and benefits of globalisation

Just a few pointers: - You need to be quite careful when you talk about structural unemployment, because it is only in the short-term that structural unemployment will increase (as the economy restructures). Afterwards, as productive capacity increases due to greater productive and allocative...

How many books do I need for year 11?

The only subject I had a book for was Chemistry. I used my laptop and notepad paper a lot (especially for maths), and continue just to use my laptop for everything. You don't necessarily need books, but books do definitely work for some people. See what has worked for you up to now. I hardly...

Is it possible to get a decent ATAR with this subject combo?

You can definitely achieve a 90+ ATAR by getting in the high 80s for all of your subjects. However, for English Standard and IDT, this will require you to achieve a mark near the top in the state.

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

At the moment, I'm most interested in adverse selection and moral hazard in insurance/regulation. I was also considering the fact that since law requires a lot more time than economics (for me at least), perhaps it may be advantageous to choose easier comm/eco subjects so I can do better in...

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

Thanks JasonG123!! Is there any value in taking the pre-honours units if you're not planning on doing honours? The coordinator suggests that it indicates strong academic performance to employers, but I remain skeptical on this point.

    Economics Pre-Honours/Honours

I'm doing LLB/Comm and I'm thinking about doing economics honours. If I were to do economics honours, I would do that in my 6th year, although I'm not certain as to whether I would do economics honours - I probably won't if I do well enough in 4th/5th year law. And to do all the units to fulfill...

    Is economics hard?

Eco is really more of a logic type subject. So as long as you're familiar with the thought processes involved in economics, you would be able to reason many of the economic consequences out, and is probably more useful than memorising these causes and effects (especially for longer short answers...

What do I need to get a 98+ ATAR with these subjects?

ATAR Calculators are suggesting (with your 92 in Mathematics) English Advanced - 91 Chemistry - 91 Economics - 92 French - 93 Extension 1 - 44-5/50 And with that, 92 in Maths would probably end up as the lowest scaled mark, and would have 1 unit counting towards your ATAR with those marks

    Making thesis statements...

tutoring Mod C - Representing People and Politics at the moment, so I have a few ideas on this. Yep, you don't have to be restricted by 'all'. You can argue that your text shows that not all people it politics are corrupt. And by 'people in politics', this might refer to everyone who lives...
