Compare Newton's concept of escape velocity with the modern version

Escape velocity is the initial velocity required by a projectile to rise vertically and just escape the gravitational field of a planet. Newton proposed that this could be achieved by firing an object horizontally (if launched at an angle, the path would be elliptical and the object would...

    Motors and Generators Question

Right, I understand now. It just seems weird that the velocity of the rod is referring to the direction of electrons rather than the movement of the rod as a whole as a result of an applied force. Thanks for your help anyway!

    Motors and Generators Question

Oh I kind of see what you mean now. I'm still not too clear on why your thumb needs to point downwards in the first place though. When it shows that PQRS is moving downwards I thought that it was because of the applied force that was causing it to move downwards, thus I had my palm pointing...

    Motors and Generators Question

Oh, why is it that? Plus if that is the case, the answer would still be different.

    Motors and Generators Question

That's what I'm doing but if I use the left hand palm rule like you suggested, my thumb would point to the right, then that means electrons are flowing to the right, but that's not what the answer agrees with.

    Motors and Generators Question

It's the same thing, if you use right hand palm rule then you just take the direction of the negative charge to be away from your thumb. Using left hand palm rule stills gives me the wrong answer.

    Motors and Generators Question

https://gyazo.com/3dd4212847ef84559688ff7fabfd8754 I thought the answer was C but the correct answer is A? I thought by using the right hand palm rule, your fingers point into the page and your palm points down the page, so your thumb is pointing to the left. Since your thumb represents flow...

    Need help

Hi Nick, unfortunately I am unable to provide any suggestions as I am still only a high school student. That being said, you may want to move your post to this forum so you can more likely get a response: http://community.boredofstudies.org/584/education/ This is a high school forum for the...

can't write anything decent, need feedback or advice !!

From my experience, people getting marks within 60-70% in English Advanced are usually not analysing enough quotes or using techniques to address them. Since I can't really tell where exactly you're going wrong at the moment, I can make an educated guess that you can push yourself to 80% by...

First Year Mathematics A (Differentiation & Linear Algebra)

This video could be useful, it covers the very basics of the chain rule. https://www.khanacademy.org/math/ap-calculus-ab/ab-derivative-rules/ab-chain-rule/v/chain-rule-introduction

First Year Mathematics A (Differentiation & Linear Algebra)

You're right, sorry. I don't know why but I thought for a second that I could somehow help by giving an alternate solution and thought that it would add to his knowledge of how to tackle those types of questions. Apologies for my stupidity :spin:

First Year Mathematics A (Differentiation & Linear Algebra)

You could also use the the differentiation: d(tan^-1(x/a))/dx = a/(a^2+x^2). Although this method is easier when you're differentiating something in the form tan^-1(x/a), you can treat a as 1/2 and you will get: -1/2/(1/2)^2 + x^2 = -1/2/(1/4 + x^2) Times numerator and denominator by 4: =...

Can i use the word 'Aussies' in an essay

It's fine if you're using the word "Aussie" as a quote to analyse in your essay, but if you're trying to refer to Australians in general then I would stick with just using "Australian" rather than "Aussie" to keep it formal. It's the same idea as having to write out numbers in words rather than...

    Anyone have preliminary legal notes?

I only have a word document containing the notes I made for my half-yearly exam which could still come in handy for some of the previous topics, if you want those send me your email address and I'll be happy to send them to you.

    Help! Year 10 maths

Don't worry, that is one stupid maths question, I doubt you will be asked anything like that in the HSC.

    graphing without desmos

Firstly, just ignore the inequality, consider the equation x=1/y. Use algebra to let y be the subject. xy=1 y=1/x Now you should recognise that this graph is your normal hyperbola with centre at (0,0), it would also be good to mark the points (1,1) and (-1,-1) to ensure that you get full...

Using an artwork as a related text

I think this is something you should ask your teacher about, however I would suggest leaning more towards English visual techniques rather than art techniques as the latter aren't supposed to be taught in the English syllabus. I'd still recommend asking your teacher and if he/she is fine with...

Is physics really that hard? + Study techniques

You definitely don't need to be naturally good at Physics to do well. I remember I failed science in Year 7 back when I didn't study any science at all, but now I've been getting 90%+ for all my assignments/exams. If you don't do well in Year 11 Physics, it doesn't mean you can't do Year 12...

Are the HSC modules for Chem similar to each other

I think people have more or less only answered your second question. In my opinion, no they're not similar to each other. I'll give you a brief overview of the core topics, the main three are Production of Materials, The Acidic Environment and Chemical Monitoring and Management. Production of...

    Parabola as locus

The parabola is concave down since the directrix is above the focus (from the graph), therefore the generation equation for this parabola is (x-h)^2 = -4a(y-k). Since you've worked out the centre (h,k) which is at (0,0), and that a=4, substitute those values into the generation equation and...
