Engineering+ Maths Dual Degree at UNSW or USYD?

Lets get to the main q, What your WAM shadowdude? Overall, not accumulation of your favourite subjects.

    MBA-UWS vs UTS

UTS. Uws MBA is pointless simply because of reputation. For MBA, reputation of program is a big factor. Also considee macquarie if you can.

Should I try out for law or not?

Hey mate, Absolutely go and try law. I'm only posting because the way you describe yourself (science/math person, can't write essays on the spot, english isnt first language) is very similar to me. I did 3u maths, bio, phys, econ and eng adv. Eng adv was my worst subject and something I always...

Medicine at UNSW or Newcastle JMP

If I'm in sydney, and had unbonded offers from both, I would definitely go UNSW. Basically, get into the med course you get in. I got into newcastle and that's where I am right now rather than couple of my other mates who did umat two or more times to get into unsw. If you have a inferiority...

    Investment Banking

You're comparing the 'top tier' most money making music industry guns currently with the lowest of the finance world. Top headge fund managers are worth billions - more than Justin beiber will ever make.

    Investment Banking

5-6 million for 'star' MD sounds pretty shit when macquarie's star MIM head made 7.xx m last year, only behind the CEO working most probably materially less hours than MDs in IBD. Most people will move out of investment banks into better things if they can.

UTS LAW vs MQ LAW (already completed first year law)

Well done. 86 wam is pretty solid. Get some experience on the side too and that will help quite a bit e.g. paralegal. Law market is not as bad as people saw it is. Sydney Freehills alone took in 50 clerks. That's a lot of people so if you keep it up, should be ok.

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

If you think top junior software engineers work 37.5 hours a week, you have no idea what you're talking about. Hours for juniors is slightly less than banking. How exactly does practical application go with publicity. I can't help but think you're imagining you'll come up with some great theory...

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

Precisely what I said - do what interests you. Pure maths should be good. But now to my question - essentially the same pay to what?
  10. R

    Investment Banking

Plenty of kids dropping their big 4 cadetships to get into IB. Probably worth it. For a little more hours, you're literally getting tripple the pay in yout firdt year and substantially better exit opportunities in finance (specifically finance).

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

Essentially same amount of pay to what? Do what you're interested in - if you're in the top of virtually ANY field, there is plenty of cash. Also nothing is set, have seen someone with a university medal in pure mathematics from usyd work at an IB and then do med. As a 17 year old, making...

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

What is wrong with getting "prepared" for the exam? These tests are not an aptitude or natural intelligence test to see whether one has been longing all their life to study med or law (if even you did - means nothing, doesn't mean you'll be a good doctor or lawyer). They are merely an extra...

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

This is a great post. Just to add, inflating ATAR cut-offs can be seen as another form of marketing. If a student with 99.8 ATAR had to choose between usyd and unsw law - judging just by atar points - he/she would think the one with higher atar is more in demand/better hence choose that. This...

UTS LAW vs MQ LAW (already completed first year law)

Competition is not tough. Plenty of ways to get into law and plenty of sub par getting into law and subsequently getting destroyed by the exams. There are people at usyd (which marks materially harder than unsw mq or uts) who have all hds and ds and are in their third year. So it's not that...

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

How does a degree become irrelevant just because people with substantially lower atars get to do the course - just don't end up with a pass or credit average and you should be sweet. I think the average ATAR is a more reflective statistic. They defs made a typo on the 10 points below.
  16. R

UTS LAW vs MQ LAW (already completed first year law)

In nsw and law, gpa isn't important - WAM is - wam is simply the average of all your final marks (i.e. on transcript assuming all had the same credit points). Either way lowest mark of a distinction is always strong. Probably would stay at mq. If it was usyd or unsw, the move may have been...
  17. R

UTS LAW vs MQ LAW (already completed first year law)

Stay at MQ unless uts is substantially more convenient. Top yier firms are more represented by students from usyd and unsw and there is a smaller proportion of students from uts and mq. You just have to be around a top of your cohort whatever uni it is and you should be fine. What's your mq...

    SMH article: offers below cutoff

http://m.smh.com.au/national/education/nsw-universities-taking-students-with-atars-as-low-as-30-20160125-gmdvr6.html How accurate is this. 90% of offers to unsw law were to people with ATARS more than 10 points below cut off. Seems a bit off.

    adjusting a cadetship to USYD

There are multiple cadets from each of the big 4s at usyd so I don't think you'll have a bad time 'adjusting'. Usyd timetabling is effectively the same as other universities.

    USyd Com or UNSW Law

I know plenty of people doing science/law at usyd. Not a weird combo- its an awesome combination.
