Should I buy textbooks before uni starts!?

Definitely get all of the maths books/course notes. Most of them won't be available until when semester starts anyway, so you'll have to pick them up from Kopystop on Mountain Street at the start of term. For your other science subjects I'd wait until you hear from the lecturer.

    B.Sci (Psychology) what subjects?

Well for maths units you don't really have a choice in terms of what you study (you could choose the stream, but you basically cover the same topics). For science, especially if you are interested in the neuroscience aspect of psychology, I'd definitely recommend taking units from the...

Is it too late to change my major?

It's possible. While I didn't go through with it, I did plan at one stage last year to complete a second major, and I managed to fit it into one year. If you let me know the major you want to do and the degree you're in/subjects you've already done I might be able to help you out.

    WRIT1000 or WRIT1001

I'd recommend WRIT1001. Both are extremely easy but while WRIT1000 is slightly easier, it's also quite boring. You'd just be learning the rules of English grammar and sentence structure which you probably know already; meanwhile in WRIT1001 you work on writing your own essay on a topic of your...

Getting to universities in sydney (guide)

Very good idea nerdasdasd. I have a few things you can add about USYD transport. These bus routes can be caught from Stand M at Railway Square. Routes 435 and 437 no longer exist, while 483, L38 and L39 can be added to that list. These can drop you off anywhere on Parramatta Road, on the...

    Applied/Pure Mathematics majors?

It's unofficial; there are applied subjects and pure subjects but there's only the one mathematics major. You can have any combination of applied and pure as you wish. The difference comes when you get to Honours, which is divided into Applied, Pure and Statistics streams. I think the reason...

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread My main concerns were costs and credit equivalency. Not too sure whether I will be going on exchange now after all but it would be good to have that information just in case :).

Degree structure- law or psychology first year???

It's not so much a question of why you'd want to, it's the fact that you have to. Every Macquarie student has to do both a People and a Planet unit, and the only time you will be able to fit that in, assuming you'll be sticking to the standard degree progression, is in your first year. Really...

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread Really? I've got the MATH3078/3978 resources from the last few years and it looks pretty well organised. If Mary Myerscough is taking it again next year I would definitely consider it, I heard she's a great lecturer.

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread I'd be doing 3974 and 3978. The latter because it's a very fundamental topic in applied mathematics that has a wide range of applications, and the former mainly because I'm not fond of computers haha. From what I hear though MATH3974 is reasonably straight...

    BUSS 1001 Failure

BUSS1001 is not offered in Winter School; you're only options are to do it in Semester 1 or Semester 2. It's not a prerequisite for any subject except for BUSS3500, so it shouldn't have an impact on any other subject you want to enrol in.

MATH2065 - Introduction to Partial Differential Equations Ease - 8/10 Not particularly difficult by any means, but the assessments, particularly the exam, did throw quite a few curve balls. That ended up affecting my mark a little bit. If you keep on top of the work then you should be fine; the...

    USYD Chatter Thread

Re: Semester 2 USYD Chatter Thread Congratulations! :). Just a question, when you do graduate, is it the Sydney Student system that recognises you've satisfied the requirements and allows you to graduate, or do you have to apply manually through the graduations office? I've had so many...
