    Maths vs. English

Vectors in complex numbers? Vector geometry is typically 3D geometry done with matrices. Are you sure you don't mean complex polar forms?

    Maths vs. English

I was simply saying that in high school, there is no usage of calculus whatsoever in any subject apart from maths. However, at uni, calculus is obviously regularly used in the derivation of calculations for Physics. High school Physics in my opinion is extremely basic compared to even the...

    Maths vs. English

I agree that one good point about English is that even if you have no clue, you can bullshit and still obtain reasonably good marks if you're good at it. As stated, in maths you are either right or wrong; there are no alternative meanings to that alliteration in the third stanza, nor...

going to a single sex school

Going to an all boys school must be pretty crap I reckon. I think I would be saying "don't bend over" over and over in my head constantly whilst in the changerooms.

    Maths vs. English

IPT is just VB stuff isn't it? (I only ever did IT back in high school.) I didn't like programming in general until I did C/C++ at uni.

    Maths vs. English

Pfft, English Schminglish. Since when does English provide a source of energy, make possible our beloved mobile phones or my favourite use: cure someone of cancer?

Hmm, they've given me atleast one lecture every day, guess it's just bad luck in my case?

Who got their 1st preferences for tutorials?

Major grrr at arts and commerce people with bludgy timetables. I have to go 5 days, just as I've had to every semester.

    Functions of the n-th power

When we did Taylor series at uni, we used the f(n)(x) notation to indicate "The nth derivative of function x". This was because the 6th derivative tends to look confusing when you notate it as f''''''(x). I'm pretty sure in the HSC they would write f[f(x)] if they ask a question on this...

Who got their 1st preferences for tutorials?

Ah, the joy of being from the Faculty of Engineering. With my tuts, as long as you get in as soon as enrolment times are open, you end up with your first preference.

    Physics Olympiad

If I could recommend any first year Physics book it would be: "Physics for Scientists and Engineers - Extended Edition" by Tipler and Mosca It's a bit of a brick, from memory being ~1400 A4 pages, but it covers more than you would ever need to know for some high school contest and it looks...

    capacity

Just a hint, the Casio FX-100AU calculator has keys for multipliers (mega, kilo, nano, etc.) and the ability to display quantities in terms of Engineering notation. To turn this on, press MODE x5, Disp (1), EngON (1) To turn this off, press MODE x5, Disp (1), EngOFF (2)

Uni Text Books - SO EXPENSIVE!!!

For Mechanics and Thermodynamics (single subject), there are 2 books I need; both happen to cost $140.... yay $280 for one subject. Already spent $168 on the Modern Physics text, so that's $448 for 2 subjects, and there's another 2 to buy for.

    Summer Session Results Released

Hey people, just letting you know that the results for summer session are out. I did Systemic Anatomy after changing degrees just before the end of Spring '05. How did everyone go (I'm assuming atleast someone else out there has to have done summer session)? Anyway, I scored: BMS 101 83...

    timetable

The only information that table will ever show is classes enrolled using the SMP tut enrolment system. It barely shows anything for me, but if you're from a faculty that uses its own enrolment system, it wont show a thing.
