    Cross-Institutional-Study : Insolvency Law

I worked in the insolvency group at Blake Dawson for a while last year (not having studied insolvency law at uni) and found that it was relatively easy to pick up. If you want to be a top lawyer you should make sure you're mastered all the core areas before trying to specialise. But in...

Comparision of aligning and scaling of subjects

Mmm... some interesting questions. In order to be able to draw some meaningful conclusions, you need to keep in mind the different purposes of aligning and scaling. Aligning marks can be done for any course and is primarily done to report achievement in terms of the course standards and...

Request for scaled aggregate from UAC

Actually, I have one or two changes to make to this before sending; thinking we can at least get some more info out of them if they don't have the data.

Who got 100 UAI in 2008?

The only difference would be that there would be more people on 99.95. No other UAIs would change.

Who got 100 UAI in 2008?

Unlike Victoria, SA, WA, etc, in NSW the highest UAI is 100. The ranks of those who scored 100 may soon be closed however - in 2007 the Technical Committee on Scaling recommended that the top UAI be changed to 99.95 to conform with the practice of other states. This means that there would...

    Read this first

James - great to have you on board. If you and dp know of any others who would be interested, motivated and trustworthy, feel free to invite them. While I personally have no faith in either of the main political parties in NSW, I agree that it is something we should pursue, if only to augment...

Request for scaled aggregate from UAC

There shouldn't be any processing fee for this one, so it's just the letter. Good idea to change the phone number to an email - probably better for our purposes anyway. Then I think it's OK to send. :) Don't be surprised if you get back a simple rejection letter saying they don't have any of...

Request for scaled aggregate from UAC

Hey DP How do you feel about sending this? I think at most they might have your aggregate and percentile. I suspect they don't have anything useful. But worth a try. [attachment removed]

    2008 HSC Maths Scaling Stats

You have described this situation: raw internal assessment mark = 70% raw examination mark = 70% The student is ranked absolute first internally and does not have an atypically low examination mark, so the student's initial moderated assessment mark will be the top raw examination mark...

Who got 100 UAI in 2008?

The students from Sydney Grammar may include the following, who were two of the 20 students to be listed on the Distinguished Achievers' List for eight courses: Mark Yeow - English (Advanced), English Extension 1, English Extension 2, Mathematics Extension 1, Mathematics Extension 2, French...

Possible to get our exam papers back?

See this thread: http://community.boredofstudies.org/844/uai-hsc-marks-class-2008/196215/anyone-getting-their-exam-papers-back-bos.html It is very misleading of them to suggest that you have no right to review your scripts when you specifically referred to FOI in your email.

    2008 HSC Maths Scaling Stats

You seem to have missed my earlier answer: Even though the aligned HSC mark isn't used for your UAI, the UAI calculators estimate scaled marks from aligned marks, so you enter aligned HSC marks into them. This is because we don't (currently) have any useful statistics about raw marks.

    Anomalous Remarks

A gets internal 99.5, external 100 = 99.75 B gets internal 99.5, external 97 = 98.25 The 'averaging external marks' approach for tied students only applies if they're ranked equal first. Other tied students will receive the same moderated assessment mark but in most cases it won't be an...

    Anomalous Remarks

Hmm, yes, I believe you're correct. However, in relation to the second point, my understanding was that the moderated assessment would be extrapolated rather than interpolated - linearly from the top of the moderating curve (with the same gradient as the endpoint of the curve). If the...

    2008 HSC Maths Scaling Stats

Your raw HSC mark is the average of your raw exam mark and your initial moderated assessment mark. It is not reported to you but is used in scaling and UAI calculations. Your aligned HSC mark is the average of your aligned exam mark and your aligned (moderated) assessment mark. It is...

    CIE A-levels to UAI conversion

Found this online, should give you an estimate. Only UAC knows for certain though. See also: http://recognition.cie.org.uk/SearchRecognitions.aspx space

Clerical Recheck- Chance of Worse Mark??

Don't know about the first question - in relation to the second, if one of your marks increased your UAI would be recalculated.

    2008 HSC Maths Scaling Stats

You can't really know. I think you performed well enough. :) In 2007 the Technical Committee on Scaling reviewed the scaling of General Mathematics based on complaints it received from teachers that top students were still able to receive a scaling benefit by 'dumbing down' and taking that...

Preliminary Report on the Scaling of the 2008 HSC w/ tables

Try right-clicking and saving the files first before you open them. It might be the case that your system is trying to open the file before it's finished downloading - or that it's only downloading part of the file. Table A3 is ~95 KB and the others are a bit less. You could also try updating...

    Explanation of HSC Marks (Moderating)

Re: Explanation of HSC Marks For anyone who is still interested, this is online again. It's crude, but it works.
