Are most top ATAR scorers at private schools scholarship students, brought in to boost exam results?

I went to SydGrammar and no, not really. a) Not that many scholarships are given out b) These scholarships are awarded in year 7. Success in year 7 I would argue is loosely correlated with success in year 12. Some of the people on scholarships were brilliant, in fact most were, but also...

    Electrotechnology

Bud you need to brush up on your algebra.

    Just re-arrange the variables and you get N = 120*F / P

What HSC subjects do future doctors choose in Australia?

Was this the plan from the very beginning or did u have undergrad med first priority lol. Postgrad med was always the plan. Perhaps undergrad could've been smarter in terms of time saved, but i dont regret my choices

What HSC subjects do future doctors choose in Australia?

What options you think I should consider? I'd recommend Engineering and Computer Science. You have great back up options, and a doctor with CS/Engineering background is absolutely a lethal combo if you ever want to do research/become a biomedical entrepreneur

What HSC subjects do future doctors choose in Australia?

100% agreed. 2 units of english is fine, the point was more to subvert the idea that biology is necessary. However, I would even go so far to argue that (depending on the type of physician you want to become), you should do an undergrad in an underelated stem area before going to med school...

What HSC subjects do future doctors choose in Australia?

The best subject is NOT Biology. The best would be 4U Maths, 4U English Hear me out. Med school isn't about memorising. Certainly you need it to survive, but the core of it is UNDERSTANDING and PROCESSING. It's so so much easier to derive intuitively something than to remember all the...

Taking English Ext 1 just for year 11

Agreed, private tutoring is a good idea for english. Try to get one on one and get them to go through your essays and point out all the good/bad. Depending on your teacher at school, you might not need them for teaching the actual content, especially if they didn't study your texts in-depth. If...

Taking English Ext 1 just for year 11

    1. A lot of people have that concern, but they rarely end up losing out on their other subjects. The thing about the hsc is that you're going to MAXIMISE your ATAR. This is by focusing on your WEAKNESSES not strengths. So really, ext1 is helping you out for next year 2. Even if you just show up...

Taking English Ext 1 just for year 11

That's normal, HD is top 10%, D is next 20%, I forget the rest of the distributions. Grammar gets like 100 B6 or something insane like that, so don't worry, just grind english out, make sure you ask your teacher for feedback (you're never getting that sort of continous feedback ever again) and...

Taking English Ext 1 just for year 11

Yeah mate, go for it. It's honestly down to the teacher you have, but if you're lucky, you can improve greatly in y11 and turn y12 english into a strength

    Working and studying

I reckon 10 hours a week is the limit before your marks take a hit. I was volunteering in the lab from 9-5 once a week and my marks took a bit of a downturn, not sure if it's because they were harder or if I losing a day to the lab. Honestly, you're at uni to study, so unless you need to work...

Taking English Ext 1 just for year 11

14 units is a lot, but perfectly fine in y11. y12 is when you want to drop that down to 12 units All extension units have a disproportionate amount of work associated. 3u maths is a HUGE jump from 2u maths, and 4u maths is also a big jump from 3u. However, you are rewarded in a) scaling b) you...

Looking for exam tips/strategies top schools have

Top schools don't teach study techniques that much, you just kinda pick it up by yourself. No one is really going to say "I have this technique from my school that no one else from other schools will know of" The best things for studying are 1) taking mental health/physical health seriously -...

    Fresh grad or experienced tutor?

Yeah agreed, if the fresh grad hasn't done the texts, then experienced wins out. The main utility from the fresh grad that state ranks is that they have tips and tricks that other teachers may not have. The experienced teacher that has been but not studying can lose touch with the tips/tricks...

    Fresh grad or experienced tutor?

eh, I'd go with the state ranker as they might have some tips that every experienced tutors don't have. If you feel like they aren't great at communicating how they did so well, then go for the experienced tutor.

    self care

100% necessary if you want to do well. It definitely isn't wasting time

TSP for advanced Science worth it?

TSP (now known as dalyell) is actually good for science research. I'm planning on doing some computational genomics stuff next sem and there's no way I'd otherwise be able to get that sort of experience before honours if I wasn't part of dalyell. I'd highly recommend making the most of the...
