Between paying the fine and the RTA receiving notification of the offence is a 4 week window. If you upgrade your license before paying the fine or during that window you'll get away with it. Otherwise, sucks to be you.

how much throttle if you pin it in gear and it disengages when it's not going to shift - then you have a slipping clutch if not, its most likely the gear selector unlucky, going to cost an arm and a leg

It'll work out at less than 2 hours a week when you take into account the fact that instructor hours are worth more, even with the limit imposed on the number of them that count as more.
