You're within the word count. As long as your story is good, I don't see how they could mark you down based on word count alone.

Pretty sure that you have to stick to the word limit. The leniency is in the 2000 word range (i.e. 6000 - 8000 word count).

Are you learning another language as well? If you are, and you are good at it (by 'good' I mean, you're sort of a natural at languages) then it might be possible.
