    Synonym for walking nervously?

Paced? It's hard to come up with one word for a simple verb with an adjective attached. Have you considered using a simile? It might work better and add ~technique~ to your writing and get you English teacher brownie points.

    Free Periods

I have 18 free periods a week (out of 38): The ultimate timetable. I do 10 units: 6 units on-line, two offline, and a distance education subject. Technically I should be working in my 6 periods assigned to distance ed, but I prefer to do it at home because it requires so much paper/listening...

    Holiday Progress

I'm definitely 'Meh'. I've read Frankenstein and sticky-noted good quotes in preparation for English Advanced, written about one-third of my first draft of my EE2 major work, which I'm pretty happy with, but it just feels like there is so much more to do. Tonnes of reading for EE1 and 2 and a...

    10 units vs 12 units.

I started year 12 with 12 units, but a few weeks before the end of term I dropped down to 10. The subject I dropped was Chemistry, which didn't really 'mesh' well with my other subjects and I found it exceptionally difficult, both in class and studying at home. The only reason I chose it was...

    roll call ee2 2014

Hi, I'm Gabby and I'm doing ee2  Haven't done much work though, just a bit of research into my concept and a few journal pages. My aim is to write my first draft for my short story this holidays.

    Heart of Darkness - Belonging

I think 'Heart of Darkness' could work. I haven't studied Emily Dickinson but I used HoD for my preliminary AOS unit on 'Discovery' and it was a great texts to work with, so much represented in a concise text. You could also reflect on the representation of not belonging: the disregard and...

    songs as related texts?

My teacher said that you should avoid music at all costs unless you are a music student/highly knowledgeable and can analyse the music part as well as the lyrics, just like how if you chose a film you have to analyse film techniques and not just the dialogue. If you're searching for a succinct...

advice about speech and being scared?

I have anxiety and a few years of debating under my belt, so I'll explain what I do. It's basically what rumbleroar said: channel the confidence of someone you're not. If you just imagine yourself as them for a few seconds before you start your speech and really try hard, you'll see the...

'Belonging' exam question 2014 PREDICTION thread!!

My school is really not creative and gave us the 2012 hsc question: "An individual's perceptions of belonging evolve in response to the passage of time and interaction with their world". It's a speech. Yawn.

    Suggest me some books?

A book that I love is 'Surrender' by Sonya Harnett. Absolutely haunting - finished it a changed person.

    Who's doing FRANKEN-RUNNER in 2014?

Yep! I have no idea if I'll love it or hate it as I adore Mary Shelley's writing but hate comparative study...

    Your personal library

I'm regularly giving books to the op-shop/lending to friends and forgetting about them, but this is what's on my shelf: Louisa May Alcott Little Women Jane Austen Mansfield Park Northanger Abbey Pride and Prejudice Sense and Sensibility Simone de Beauvoir The Second Sex Anne Bronte Agnes Grey...

    Belonging AS YOU LIKE IT

I agree 100%, please don't do The Lion King. My teachers say that down at the mark centre the running joke is "how many papers until we get one about The Lion King?". If you're completely stuck, choose a popular film or novel that has at least some depth. Choosing a bad related text only makes...

Prescribed and related text of the same form?

Hi everyone! For AOS I'm studying Romulus, My Father and it's non-fiction prose. I'm just wondering if it's a bad idea to have one of my related texts also non-fiction? I'm thinking about using The Family Law by Benjamin Law, it's totally different to Romulus in the...

Extension English Help! + free puppies/money/food

My teacher has told us to simply read as much crime writing as possible from across all eras. She's asked us to read an Agatha Christie to cement the 'Golden Age' conventional crime fiction in our minds, and then the rest is up to us. I've been thinking about The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes...

    Maths derp moments

Do this all the time! Also sometimes I completely forget how to factorise, like I never even learnt it, and I can't remember until my teacher explains it again...

What are your English prescribed texts?

Re: What are your English prescribed texts yet? AOS: Romulus, My Father Mod A: Frankenstein and Blade Runner Mod B: Hamlet Mod C: Ted Hughes poetry

    Anyone doing english Extension 1 or 2 ? :)

My school always does the same units for ext 1 - we're doing crime writing too. Mixed feelings, but hopefully I can use some Agatha Christie as related texts :) I think my teacher does "classes" for ext 2 for this term mainly, in groups until we've got a bit of momentum.

    Anyone doing english Extension 1 or 2 ? :)

Yes - doing English Extension one and two, although no classes scheduled for ext 2 yet. Only subject I'm really excited for!

anyone ready to start yr 12???

So freaked out by how fast high school has gone and now I'm about to start year 12 - it seems surreal. I barely studied anything for year 11, it's going to be hard to build up a regular routine. The only subjects I'm excited for are EE2 and SOR III
