URGENT: Apparent Changes to UNSW LAW Entry

Lol, if they are offering full-fee JD places across the Go8s, they better fucking end half the NSW law schools that are doing nothing but churning out largely incompetent law grads (have a look at their final exams lol), flooding the legal market and driving down salaries.

URGENT: Apparent Changes to UNSW LAW Entry

I don't think 'merely having the ATAR' is a bad reason to study law. That's like saying people who do UMAT for the lols, get 95+ and go into med to try it shouldn't study med because they don't want it as much as a student struggling to crack 80. If you are competent enough, sure go ahead and...

How have your study techniques improved at Uni?

What are you studying? It depends what course your doing and most importantly, what type of person you are. People say that because its true. I didn't have to adjust much to commerce, but law required some adjusting. I approached friends in years above to ask what they did - they all tried...

    The Right to Defend

Government having monopoly over 'violence' is the best way to go in western societies where there is at least some system of accountability in place. Do you want to read more 'Mum shoots 7 kids dead' or 'Teen gun rage in school'? There has been no shortage of those in recent times.

    Management Consulting

What did you end up picking mate? I say go with combined law at a go8. Have a look at the grad programs/past scholars etc, a very large proportion are high achieving comm/law or engo/law students. Both these programs teach you how to think. Just know that no matter how smart you are, the...

Roll Call for all those who are trying to transfer into USyd/UNSW Law - 2015

That is an absolute gun GPA for usyd commerce - they definitely didn't take into account your ATAR. Well done mate and congrats!

Roll Call for all those who are trying to transfer into USyd/UNSW Law - 2015

Faculty staff don't always tell the truth (like the ABS admin guy who told me I needed a minimum of 82 WAM to get into UNSW law - lol such bs) but yes it does tend to fluctuate quite a bit. From the people who've transferred into usyd law from your university, they had similar marks to yours -...

    Transferring to Wharton

    you beast. Congrats mate!!

Roll Call for all those who are trying to transfer into USyd/UNSW Law - 2015

Wouldn't conclude that. My friend from usyd comm applied last year to usyd law and unsw law. Was rejected from usyd law and offered unsw law despite the 'internal transfer advantage' (didn't end up changing though, will do JD). Most of you guys have a good shot at it. Good luck! :D

What is a bachelor of commerce like at sydney uni?

I'm a usyd commerce student - just completed 2nd year. Do they get jobs easily? Easy answer, no graduate from any university in Australia is going to get a 'job easily' from a Bachelor of Commerce or Combined programs. Do they give you a lot of practical experience? I will slightly...

    Combined commerce thoughts?

    4. Commerce/Science isn't the most popular but I knew 2 of my friends that started with it. One changed to Comm/Engo after first sem, the other dropped commerce. One mate that I met last year is doing Science (Adv maths)/Comm (Finance) - which is a gun combination. It would be really random...

    B Engineering / B Commerce Question

No, its just like any other degree The good student - gets an internship in 4th year usually since you'll be penultimate (Not sure about the specifics of engo placements during uni) The exceptional ones - pulls one in 3rd year. Also note, if you do engo/comm you're not likely to be better or...

ATAR of 98.1 what WAM do I need to be competitve for internal transfer into USyd Law?

Re: ATAR of 98.1 what WAM do I need to be competitve for internal transfer into USyd Usyd doesn't distinguish between internal or external transfers. You wouldn't be disadvantaged and i personally k ow plenty that transferred from uts law last year.

Craziest/random/wierd things that you have seen happen at school?

Back in year 9. All lined up to enter georgraphy class. One mate (known to be an idiot) had something in his hands. Teacher walks in and asks what it is. Student refuses. Teacher takes it off student. *fart bomb explodes in teachers face*. Goneskies. Rekt. Bye for a week.

Stockbrokers that accept 16 y/os // where to invest 200k?

Optiver/GS Trading would pay so much for you. On a serious note, if you actually have 200k, don't put it all in the stock market - trading home alone. As a 16 yo kid with raging testosterone, you are likely to lose your shit. Let your parents buy some mutual fund units. note: probably...

ATAR of 98.1 what WAM do I need to be competitve for internal transfer into USyd Law?

Re: ATAR of 98.1 what WAM do I need to be competitve for internal transfer into USyd It is hard to say since USYD recently changed the intake structure of their LLB. The ATAR cut-off has been lowered by the faculty to 99.5 with the school size still the same - so it is going to be more...

    UNSW AAA Award

My school captain got the AAA and never wanted to go UNSW. He's at usyd, so doesn't really matter what your preference is, your school just nominates typically (unless they specifically ask the students - which my school didn't do)

Do you need to be good at english to do law?

No you don't. That is probably the biggest misconception which my contracts lecturer clarified on the first day. He said that students who were good in maths or sciences generally performed well (given they put in the effort). I got 89 in HSC english and most recently got a HD in Public Law...

    Commerce without maths in Yr11/12?

=21? You will get rekt in usyd stats without any maths. I know people who've done the unit twice and failed because they did no maths. However, if you put in some extra work it is definitely pass-credit-able.
