    Cadetships 2014

I've heard differently from the ey and kpmg cadets I know who finish much earlier than that (also probably the most chilled people I've met). I doubt they make vacationers work like dogs - you usually finish earlier if you're an intern (however, many choose to stay back). A friend of mine in...

Difference between commerce and applied finance?

Your choice between those won't have as much of an impact on your chances of getting into IB (Bulge Bracket in particular) compared to your marks. Also ideally, if you want to go to UTS/MQ, you should be around the top of your cohort to have a solid chance. This is roughly true even if you're...

    Perks of employment in Audit/Assurance?

Thanks for the input mate! So for example, if you had detoillette consulting lined up and pwc auditing - what would audit offer relative to the consulting/advisory division?

How did I get in when my ATAR was so low

No one says "I go to unsw" for prestige. That's not uncommon. Majority of med science/science kids have that as their number 1 plan.

    Perks of employment in Audit/Assurance?

Career/personal development in terms of the skills you pick up along the way/exit opportunities. I know the pay in assurance is a tad lower compared to other divisions, so I assume it must have some good 'perks' that attract so many grads every year.

How did I get in when my ATAR was so low

A girl from my school with a lower ATAR got into uws law (UWS ATAR requirements are extremely inflated). As someone above said, I think you should embrace this great opportunity. If uws law isn't doing it for you, get a really high WAM and transfer to better law schools.

Students who did not do well in the HSC?

Yes I agree with you - but the 90 threshold, as I made clear, was the apparent 'good' ATAR on BOS (although some people seem to think anything less than 99 is 'bad'). Unfortunately I haven't met anyone with an atar less than 80 in comm yet. Lowest was a really nice guy from a western suburbs...

    Perks of employment in Audit/Assurance?

The question particularly relates to big 4 accounting firms. What do you find appealing about Audit?

UNSW Comm/Eco to Usyd Comm or ANU transfer

I'm not sure about ANU Commerce/Eco, but if you can pull your WAM up to 65 ish, you will most likely get usyd comm/arts transfer!

Students who did not do well in the HSC?

    1. Given that we are on BoS, I'll define 'didn't do well' as less than 90. Not many. This does not mean a student with an ATAR of 80 cannot do well in university. As long as they aren't doing the exact same thing they were doing during HSC (which didn't seem to work - assuming no family dramas...

    Cadetships 2014

Cadets at some big4 firms can recommend a friend and actually receive monetary reward if you're through. After one whole year at Macquarie you just met one cadet?

    Please help :/

USYD/UNSW won't take into account your GPA (unfortunately, since MQ inflates D to a 4 points, not the standard 3). It depends year to year - but ideally WAM around low to mid 70s for unsw (despite the 100 internal transfers) and high 70s to low 80s for usyd law (Because they take into account...

All Specialties in Medicine has been oversubscribed since last year!

You are the biggest pest/dropkick on BoS. I don't think medman's being arrogant at all. It's not just because he's doing med, it's because he actually talks to those doing med and how they are going in terms of finding jobs etc.

Is HD average much more employable than D average Commerce student???

You're in the same pool as OP though aren't you? (Deloitte would love your degree though). This is assuming, Info systems isn't IT, but that 'digital business innovation' stuff. Everything is competitive now. Definitely, that's why I said 'most' students :)

The SGSII Saga: A Uni Journal

Great work! All the best! You will certainly reach your goal if you continue this way! Don't get too consumed in it though - I don't remember there being that much work in the first few weeks.

Is HD average much more employable than D average Commerce student???

With that attitude, it will be hard for you to get into big 4 acct.. not even audit which is their largest division. They place less emphasis on your marks, more on you. A fantastic candidate (she was actually amazing - in terms of soft skills, best one out of those who were in my AC) didn't...

Is an ATAR of 80+ considered good?

There are MANY asians getting 70s/80s. You go to UWS, won't take you long to find out (with that mindset, have fun making friends there). I had some people from my school who were ecstatic after receiving 80+ ATAR. They should be - it got them into their course. As most people here said, it...

best wam boosters electives usyd commerce

Claw1001 is a WAM booster? Did you get 90+ in the unit - if not, it isn't a WAM booster? I know the highest mark was 89 in 2012 (the girl's the lecturer's research assistant) If you want WAM boosters and you like maths (plus/minus), do accounting.

Management major vs industrial relations and human resource management major?

Hi SGSII, Management consultancy, specifically Mckinsey, Bains and BCG (MBB) attract some of the brightest people across all fields. Engineers, Lawyers, Doctors, PhD in Physics/Maths etc etc. They want a wide range of people with different backgrounds because they work across so many fields...

Did they make a mistake with my HECS form?

I got this too! going to usyd tomorrow to take care of it. I definitely completed mine.
