    HSC Physics Marathon 2013-2015 Archive

re: HSC Physics Marathon Archive Poor Einstein has been waiting almost 2 months Einstein's contribution to special relativity was to that he interpreted the null result of the Michelson and Morley experiment as meaning that the speed of light was constant from all frames of reference. This...

    Phonons in cooper pairs

also kaido, since your a phy god, do you agree with the phonon stuff above

    Phonons in cooper pairs

fuark look at those goals though... as if you wouldn't just do eng 24/7 from now for the .95
  4. M

    Phonons in cooper pairs

why is your goal for phy only 90, seems you are much more capable than that

    Phonons in cooper pairs

Do we need to know about phonons at all and if we do, do we just need to know that the lattice distortion emits energy particles phonons which connect the free electrons in cooper pairs?

HSC 2007 Q26 DC Transformer possible??

DC can also be used if you have a switch that is repeatedly opened and closed, as that would cause a changing flux. But obviously it is much easier / reliable and im assuming efficient to use AC.

    "Explain the Meissner effect"

If induced currents have nothing to do with the operation of a maglev train.. how does it work? My teacher said maglev trains don't use the meissner effect and stressed that we don't make the mistake of thinking they do use it.

    "Explain the Meissner effect"

Is the meissner effect related to the operation of Maglev trains? If so, does that mean Lenz's Law, Faraday's law, all the stuff to do with induced currents, has nothing at all to do with superconductors?

    "Explain the Meissner effect"

If you got a 3-4 marker on the title, how would you go about answering it? What would the 'key words' that you pretty much have to mention to get full marks be?

Re: HSC 2015 3U Marathon That brought back some bad memories bro... took me 20 mins just to get the first part

Likelihood they ask for 2 related texts?

You're allowed to use the short answer texts from discovery for the essay as a related!?

Trial / Practice Questions from 1984 / Metropolis

I think mine was the quote that went something like "if you want a picture of the future of humanity, imaging a boot stomping on a human face, forever", and a discussion of the quote. Pretty much all 1984/metropolis essay questions are either about the sanctity of the human spirit or the...

How does magnetic field bend Cathode Rays

In that MC it has to be A though regardless of if you look from the front or behind since its the 'most correct answer' and the other 3 are clearly wrong/more wrong.

    Q2Q Binding energy question

Iron has the highest binding energy. Anything to either side of it (in a binding energy graph) has less binding energy per nucleon. When you have elements to the right of iron, fission releases energy, and fusion absorbs energy (this is because in fission, the products have a higher binding...

    Conics HW help

E is ellipse where a=4,b=3 and centre (0,0) and P is the variable point (4costheta, 3sintheta). B and B' are the endpoints of the minor axis. The tangent at P meets the tangents at B and B' at C and C' respectively. Show that BC*B'C'=16. I'm making an error somewhere but can't find it.

    Blackholes....what do you think?

Somewhat unrelated but related at the same time but doesn't time slow down as you approach heavy masses, so, as you approach the black hole time will slow down and if the mass of a black hole is theoretically infinite then time will stop in your frame of reference as you approach the singularity?

The validity of English as a subject.

Every time I see someone defending English I can almost feel brain cells dying

    P-type vs n-type

For that dot point you just describe how having either an extra electron or hole in the lattice increase the conductivity by adding an impurity layer and hence reducing the band gap. Never seen anything about comparing the conductivity of holes against electrons.

    P-type vs n-type

For the intents and purposes of the HSC I would assume them to be equal.
