    maths questionsss

    8\\ $Area $ = \int_0^1(x^3+x-2x^2)\mathop{dx} \\ = \left[ \frac{x^4}{4}+\frac{x^2}{2}-\frac{2x^3}{3}\right]_0^1\\ = \frac{1}{12}.

    2013 HSC Results/ATAR banter!

Finally done truth about the hsc. You won't have a life if you get below 95 basically. I'm sorry to break it to you but this is the truth. I suggest getting job applications for those who expect lower than 95 because universities really don't want you there if you have below that.

Yeah. I got my 2011 one at 5.48, 2012 one at exactly 6AM.

    UNSW vs USYD Commerce

Even though maybe 35% of my school year went to USYD I hardly see them anymore. I think it's a good idea to make a new set of friends. Sticking with old friends is safe and easy but you could be missing out on a lot!!

    UNSW vs USYD Commerce

My point was I ~probably~ wouldn't have met as many people even if I was in my high school friendship circle as opposed to starting completely fresh. You clearly missed it. nerdasdasd, pls.

    UNSW vs USYD Commerce

Agreed. I came to USyd knowing literally no one (excluding 4 high school acquaintances I talked to anyways and the BoS krew) and tbh, I found it to be pretty great. If I went to say UNSW, I probably would have remained in my original friendship circle. But since it wasn't the case, I actually...

    UNSW vs USYD Commerce

^ Good summary of the main things you should consider. There isn't a huge rush for timetables that I've heard of at UNSW.

Notation for sum of roots etc?

    That's correct.
  12. asianese

    Mathematical Curiosities.

    Ah yeah true. Mah bad.
  13. asianese

    Mathematical Curiosities.

Yeah I understand. No doubt division by zero leads to proof that 0=1 etc.
  14. asianese

Notation for sum of roots etc?

It is valid by all means. Even though it is used less, it doesn't discredit it at all. Simga/Pi notation is used throughout maths so don't be afraid to use it. \sum \alpha, \sum \alpha\beta, \sum \alpha\beta\gamma $ (or more commonly) $ \prod \alpha

    Mathematical Curiosities.

The left hand side made up of a rational and irrational part. Same as the right hand side. If you know that both sides are equal, then since you've split up the rational and irrational parts completely, then they must be equal. Basically like if you know 'a' balls plus 'b' cubes equals 3 balls...

    HSC Plagiarism?

There's a maximum number of marking years? I worked at the board before with markers and I've seen some having marked for ~15-20 years?
  17. asianese

    Mathematical Curiosities.

Most people ignore division by zero :p

    What party...?
  19. asianese

    Why is this so?

As D94 said it's all rounded...
  20. asianese

    Why is this so?

Why is it worth 2 units? I suspect it should be worth 1 unit and so 49 with the 99 which is a 49 would round to (49+49)/2 = 49 -> 98
