The student guide to study burnout

Not really. Burn out is when you do so much work you physically and mentally hurt and can't do anymore...

    The transition from year 11 to 12 - some advice from a 2014 HSC'er

Don't overdo it - don't want to burn out.

Is it worth doing extra curricular activities in year 12?

    1. EC's are a great way to foster intergrade bonds and you'll feel more integrated in the community (so good feels!) and yes some people do them for scholarship resumes, but even if you do, it's a win-win situation because you're benefitting both yourself and the community 2. Popular activities...

    The transition from year 11 to 12 - some advice from a 2014 HSC'er

Usually no. My teacher compiled them for us but what you can do is go through all the past HSC questions and do the ones on topics you have already learnt.

    The transition from year 11 to 12 - some advice from a 2014 HSC'er

You usually don't get assessments during the Christmas holidays (I think I only got one for English extension but I literally did it the day before it was due cos #yolo) but I spent that time making notes for all the subjects I didn't make notes for during the term because I was too busy to. I...

    2014'ers Chit-Chat Thread

you still need to memorise the formulas for certain rules and know methodologies of how to approach questions idk but i find maths more intuitive than rote haha so yeah i do agree you can't rely on memorisation for maths i think for science one thing I have learnt from my friends complaining is...

How do you know when your week is balanced?

Hey! I wrote up a thread about time management during HSC: http://community.boredofstudies.org/128/preliminary-hsc/325482/transition-year-11-12-some-advice-2014-hscer.html#post6694620 I think if you're getting exhausted regularly, you need to fix up your study patterns. You don't want to be...

    The transition from year 11 to 12 - some advice from a 2014 HSC'er

Hi all! So I've been seeing a few threads popping up related to the year 11 to year 12 transition and having just completed trials and having experienced the exhaustive rollercoaster known as year 12 (which is still going...as of this post haha) I wanted to impart some advice for year 11s as...

    What subject to drop?

I think since you're ranked really well in all your subjects, pick extension 2 as a 13th unit. By the end of the first term, it will be clear which subject you want to drop. A few of my friends did this and it worked out pretty well :) What subjects do you like best BTW?

    Prelim Advanced Essay

I know these techniques aren't the best and there's probably more sophisticated ones but personal pronoun, tone and truncated sentences? Sorry not much help. :/

    2014'ers Chit-Chat Thread

I just did physics in year 11 and it was mainly because I was so bad at chemistry in year 10 it pretty much confirmed I shouldn't do it haha Also it wasn't relevant for university, so I was like laters~

    dropping a subject.

I personally don't see the point in having a safety net if your extra 2 units are extremely time consuming and make you personally unfulfilled. Don't do 12 units because of the at times BS idea of having a "safety net" - is it really safe to be spending a lot of extra time on a subject you know...

    Reference to critical interpretations

Mod B is about your personal response. You can always read stuff of critics so your approach and interpretations to the text has more depth, but it isn't a necessity to include it.

    Need advice for English

I'm terrible with techniques as well but I think the main idea at English is you need to focus on ideas first. As soon as you have a really clear and strong idea, the techniques and analysis come naturally. Just constantly ask yourself - what is the text talking about (in relation to the module...

    Procrastination

There's a lot of different strategies to combat procrastination, so different methods work for different people. A lot of my friends go to libraries because they get distracted easily and procrastinate at home. Try removing distractions from your desk (i.e. laptop, phone) when you study. There's...
